8/7/08-8/9/08 - The flight nearly took 2 days. I got on the flight from JFK at about 10 and made a stop in Vancouver for a couple of hours, then continued the flight to Hong Kong International Airport and transferred to a Tokyo flight. Crazy, right?
We finally reached Tokyo in 2-3 hours from Hong Kong. As we're heading to the Hilton Narita Hotel, I had a great feeling about this trip already. The country side seemed so surreal and peaceful.
The hotel is really nice. Headed downstairs for food. We either had a choice for Japanese food or Chinese food. We're in Japan, of course! Save that Chinese food for Hong Kong/China and back home in NY! The food is great, but halfway through the bento box, I was full already. The view from the window is just so mesmerizing. It's like a view of the mountains, just so beautiful.
I was so tired, so after all that, I was knocked-out.
This year I met my son in Kyoto and had a wonderful time there. It was once the capital of Japan until 1859 so there are over 24 days of walking tours if one can last that long. The area is surrounded by low mountains and forest of bamboo and trees and national parks. Beautiful.
The people there are so friendly as we tried to speak Japanese that we Texans felt very welcome there and would go back again because of it.
Which cities do you recommend to visit most if one likes rural scenery and less city life.
Thanks
