That Boat on the Sea of Galilee looks like the exact same one our church was on in May. Did the captain play the Star Spangled Banner, and raise the flag, when you were on board? (I'm assuming you're American). They did that for us, and there was another boat flying the Union Jack, and you could hear God Save the Queen playing across the lake!
I enjoyed reading about your trip. Thanks for sharing it! My husband and I are going to Jerusalem and Petra in a couple of weeks and we're looking for the best way across. Any tips? Your photos are gorgeous!
Hi! We got your note today at school and I read it to James. He was glad to get a special note just for him... and in the middle of class... wowie! He's been doing a fabulous job here at school. I know he misses you both but he's been a verrrrrrrrrry good boy for me... (as usual:) He's anxious for you to get home but seemed surprised it was already time for your return. I guess he's been kept so busy at home he hasn't had much time to think about how much he misses you. lol I can't wait to hear about the rest of your trip. I'm keeping you in my prayers as you bask in all the wonderful experiences He has for you there and for a safe return. Blessings, Lela
March 18, 2008- Good morning all...Today we write from Eilat which is a resort/vacation city on the Red Sea in the southern most part of Israel. We are closely bordered by Egypt and Jordan. We will be going to Jordan tomorrow. In our last days in Jerusalem, we went to the Temple Mount and vistited the Dome on the Rock, more of the Wailing/Western Wall, underground tunnels, and participated in an architectural dig. We worked with materials excavated from the Temple Mount where the muslums have built a HUGE underground mosque and did not care about the historical value/significance of the dig. They are just digging thru ruins and talking the archeological finds/debris to the dump. So Israel made an agreement to take the materials so they can be examined...by us! We found pottery, teeth, bones, metals, mosaics and marble... It was really intersting. There has been some violence since we have been here but we would not know if we did not wathc Fox news. It seems very safe here. There have been 2 bombings since we have been here but we are totally safe! Its like being in Temecula and there was a bombing in Corona or Lake Elsinore...The ending of our trip was an early morning run around the Old City of Jerusalem...it was a beautiful ending.
Israel has been so beautiful & green..now we've travelled through the Negev Desert...which is quite the opposite! Very...desert. We visited a replica of the Tabernacle then came to Eilat. Today is a free day and we will hit the beach and snorkle, swim, kayak and shop. Tomorrow is Petra and camel rides and we can't wait. That's all for now folks!
Hi there: Well, your trip sounds great. We are so glad that you are getting to walk in the areas that Jesus walked. That you got to venture into those tunnels. What a feat for King Hezekiah! The wailing wall is soooooooooooooooo different and the traditions run deep. Your trip is bringing such wonderful memories. Makes us want to go again. Well, Emily & I are packed and going to bed now. She is nervous for some reason. Her carry on bag is so heavy with all her stuff. She is excited. The boys are probably feeling kind of funny about us leaving. Brandon said, "I guess that you won't be able to warm our clothes up in the morning." I have been throwing them in the dryer to make them warm. Pray for Papa to remember everything. I will call him if I can to remind him things. All in all everything is going great. We are so blessed to have the best grand kids in the whole world. Miss you, love you. Have fun in Elat, the Red Sea, Moses' crossing.
wow, I can't believe you get to participate in a dig. What a dream come true. I know they are uncovering new sites all the time. It is mind blowing and exciting to watch it all unfold. Try to find princess Jasmines treasures for Graciela. It seems like you guys get to do & see some different places than we did. What did you do on your free days? Are you going to an Isreali mall. You will see a beanie kiosk. Your pictures are great. xoxo, jen
What a great way to share your travels with us. I'm so glad you're having a wonderful time. Your pictures and narratives make me feel like I'm there, thanks. What an overwhelming spiritual experience to walk the same steps as Jesus, of course he walks with us every second. Have a GREAT time, be safe, see you soon.
March 14, 2008 Shalom…a COLD day in Jerusalem and of course we did not bring warm enough clothes. BRR! It snowed here 2 weeks ago…but we still had a great time. We went to the Mount of Olives (peaceful, beautiful & amazing), Garden of Gethsemane (wow, another of our favorites), King Hezekiah’s Tunnel (fun and wet and dark) and the Western Wall (Wailing Wall). All were so interesting, especially the wailing wall. I’ll include a picture but it was so amazing to see the police/security (machine guns & all) and all the different Jewish cultures all praying, swaying, crying, chanting and dancing and swaying and singing. We just sat with them and observed…very foreign but cool to watch. The Old City is so filled with history it’s hard to grasp it all. It has been built & torn down, built and torn down so many times. So much history is buried under the existing city. March 15, 2008. Shabat Shalom...that is the greeting is on Shabat (Saturday)...although the sun is already down so Shabat is over and we can now just say Shalom again! We have a great day in Old Jerusalem today. Most of the day we followed Jesus' steps along Via Dolorosa and ended on the Temple Mount and the Garden Tomb. Michelle was not feeling great this morning but I was able to take a run into the Old City and thru the Armenian quarter....next to the King David Hotel and along the City walls then back to our hotel. What an experience. Tomorrow we get to participate in an archeological dig somewhere in Jerusalem and we heard that some coins were found at this dig a couple of days ago.
