At the airport, we followed the baggage claim signs and took a short train ride to the baggage location where our luggage came pretty fast. I was expecting worse from what I had read on line about the baggage claim being notoriously slow. Then we had to find the car rental area for Alamo, we walked out of the airport, and crossed the street. There were buses taking people to the rental car area. It was about 10 minutes, and a little far out. Once we got to the rental car area, it was easy to check in and pick a car. We brought our GPS so we could navigate easily to the hotel.
We arrived at the hotel around 1pm, only one room was ready. Check in was 4pm, but we had asked for an earlier check in. We all went up to the room that was ready and dropped off some luggage then we decided to get a bite to eat or explore the strip. The hotel said they would call us when the other rooms were ready and they did.
We walked out of the hotel and up the street to the strip. There was construction going on so some of the sidewalks were difficult to walk and narrow in places.
The first place we saw was the Hawaiian Tropic Zone. There was outside seating and girls in purple bikinis. The boys wanted to eat here. However, once the bikini clad waitress took your order, that was the last you saw of her until she gave you your check. We all had burgers, fries and cocktails. We had requested the fries with asiago cheese and we had to send them back twice until they got it right. It was nice to sit outside and the burgers and fries were tasty.
Since the hotel had called while we were there, we went back, unpacked and relaxed a while before dinner.
Dinner was at the MGM Grand, Wolfgang Puck's Bar & Grille. This was an open casual place right off the casino floor. The food was ok.
After dinner we did a little gambling at the MGM.
