hello: My two friends and I are leaving in two weeks to the same cities. We are doing Paris for 3 days, then Rome for 5 days, then London for 5 days. I am excited, and i have already started counting down the days. I understand what you mean about can't believe its happening. I am so excited and I plan on taking lots of pictures. Will give any info or insight when i return home.
I'm the other half of the trip. LOL. I am so excited about going. I wish it was time to go right now. Not sure how I will get all my stuff crammed into the suitcase as well. I'm so thankful that my daughter Ashley invited me. Don't think I would ever go on my own. I'm nervous about a few things, like flying, will we get lost, etc. But I'm looking forward to the sites, the food, the entertainment, the people. I could go on and on.
If anyone has any tips or ideas for our trip to Europe, please share! This is our first time to Europe and we would greatly appreciate and welcome any advice!
France is great for Americans. They are super nice, just make sure to say bonjour in every shop you go into, it is key! Make a trip to Versailles, it is absolutely amazing! Be sure to go out in Paris at night, that is when the city is at it's prettiest. Go to the Musee D' Orsay, here you will find orginial Degas, Van Gogh and Monet among other master painters. They have an extensive collection. Visit the Sacre Coeur in the Montremarte district. If you can, get there at sunset as the view over Paris is amazing! I lived for three months in London and it was amazing. See everything you can, don't waste a second. See Buckingham Palace, if you are there during the summer it is open to the public. Also see the Royal Mews which are attached, royal horses and carriages! Skip the London dungeon, it is overpriced and crowded, as is Madame Tussaud's. Do go on the London Eye and see a play at and take a tour of the Globe Theatre. Stand in the yard, just like the poor of the past, you'll get the best view! Be sure to check out Covent Garden and it's market. The locals may seem standoff-ish and unwilling to help if you are lost but don't let them fool you. The minute you ask for help they are ready to give you directions and point you in the direction of a good restaurant or the good local pub.
I've been to Rome and Paris several times. I love it and actually have another trip planned to Rome in July. The last time I was in Rome I got pickpocketed- so watch out for that-- I recommend a money holder that goes around your neck-- and only carry the cash you need for the day-- hard lesson learned!! Have a great time-- get a good map and head out-- the subway (city train) system is supper easy to figure out-- use it just secure your belongings while riding on it.
My friend and I have been talking about planning a trip to these 3 cities as well. We were just doing a little research before setting it up. Did you use a travel agent to plan the trip, book everything individually or go through some other website that has a package. I have looked and have not had much luck finding a site that I am comfortable with that has what I want. Also are you flying from city to city or taking a train? We want to do the train from city to city. Thanks
I am wondering the same thing as Jennie D. I have been researching these three cities as I have always wanted to go to them. I might try to go in the summer of 09. I found what I thought was a good deal on 3 days in each city on the virgin vacations website for about $2,000. I am also wondering if it is cheaper to use a travel agent or to book individually. And I am wondering how much a trip like this will cost? Any ideas?
