It was a really long drive. We got a late start Thursday and drove through storms so we didn't get as far as we planned. I couldn't drive any farther so we pulled off in Stuart, Iowa. All the hotels were full. I couldn't drive any more so we spent the night in the car in the McDonald's parking lot. I woke up at 6 and we headed out. The drive through Nebraska was so boring we thought it would never end, but it was a beautiful drive up the mountain through Roosevelt National Forest to Estes Park, Colorado, where our campground is.
We're feeling much better now after getting cleaned up. After we arrived and we got everything unloaded I was pretty sure I was in Hell. I had slept in the car Thursday night, we hadn't had showers or even brushed our teeth and we had driven for 15 hours. They gave us a cabin that was up 2 flights of stairs and it reeked of urine around there. I was ready to turn around and leave except I was too tired to go anywhere else. Later on I realized there was a horse stable right next to us. And, while normally that may have bothered me, I was actually glad to see it and realize the smell was the horses and not from people just urinating on the ground around the cabin, which is what I had pictured before. A spring fell out of our trunk latch after we got everything unloaded so now our trunk won't close. That was just the icing on the cake. After getting a shower and cleaned up we're feeling much better.
The first order of business tomorrow will be to find a repair shop.
