Six More Months...
Well, it's official! We've booked our flight, made a few slight changes to our itinerary to accomodate the flight schedule (which actually gave us two more days to spend), and are set to leave March 1st, 2009 and come back on March 27th, 2009. I'm so excited I think I may actually explode. You see, I love to travel, and in my short travelling life this trip is like the mecca of all trips I've gone on. It's likely to be the biggest trip I'll go on for a very long time as well, what with thoughts of having a family in the next year or two, so that just layers on the excitement and anticipation.
We started to look at flight costs and schedules yesterday, and I was quite pleased to see that the prices hadn't changed practically at all since I checked this years equivalent previously in October/November of last year. We didn't necessarily have to book this early, we would likely have waited until the end of September or end of October, but since the prices are great right now, it seemed like six of one, half dozen of the other. So we booked now! It was nice to as we put in seating reservations, meaning we don't have to worry about being seated apart from each other, and there were plenty of empty spots to pick from. We booked the return flight with Premium seating, which allows for more luggage weight, seats with more leg room, a much later check-in for the flight, and a few other nice features that seemed worth the extra expenditure.
Originally we had only 24 days to spend in Europe, but the flight schedule that was most convenient for us ended up giving us two extra days. This is nice, as I put an extra day in Rome which was a little short when I thought about it, and an extra day in Geneva where we stop on the way back to Paris from Venice. Originally we were going to just spend the night there, but now we can relax and take in a full day there and two nights. The only other change I made was to remove La Rochelle from the schedule, and just go straight to Cognac. That was simply a timing thing, as the trip is going to be so rushed and it just didn't make sense to stop at La Rochelle when Cognac is really where we want to spend a little more time.
Anyways, that's probably it for another month, when we'll likely do something else that we probably didn't have to do early but just can't contain the excitement to do, lol. The next thing will probably be to arrange the transportation when were there, and look at booking some hotels. We'll see, lol. Man I can't wait! It feels so much more real now that we have these non-refundable tickets, lol.
