Arrival
We arrived in Paris this morning. Luckily, we arranged to have a car service pick us up so that we did not have to lug our bags through the rail system. We arrived at our little hotel tired but since it was 10 am and check-in is not until 2, we left our bags and hit the streets. It was pretty cold and if you have ever been to Paris you know that there are many streets with little alleyways off of them. The streets do not run straight either like they do in Kansas. We did pretty well navigating around though. We are quite close to most sights and went to see Notre Dame first. There was a really long line and will come back later to see the inside. Then we just started walking. Went by the Centre Pompidou and the Louvre, however, both are closed on Tuesday so we did not go in. Walked along the Siene and grabbed a sandwich at a cafe. At 2 on the dot we checked into our quaint, tiny room. I know this is Europe and what we should expect but the bathroom sink is so small I can barely wash my face. We took a nap for a couple hours and then got cleaned up to head to dinner. We had no idea where to go for dinner so we just wandered around. Went into a couple of restaurants but you had to have a reservation. Found a pizza place and had dinner there. I had read in the guide book that it is customary to linger over your meal, therefore the waiter does not bring you your check until you ask for it. It took us a while to work up the nerve to ask for it in French (it really is not that difficult) so we were there about 30 min longer than planned. Next time we will be more confident.
It sounds like the weather could have been better for you but at least you are getting to see France. Hope you come home with some good receipies. Found out Judy is coming in at 4:00pm on Tues.
