We set out about 5:30 am on Saturday morning. We had to stop by the local Walmart to buy a portable DVD player for our 4 year old because the one he had did not work.
It took us about 4 hours to get to New Jersey (Exit 16W). We go to our hotel (Hampton Inn Carlstadt-At The Meadowlands 304 Paterson Plank Road, Carlstadt, New Jersey, USA 07072) at 10 am. The good thing was that even though check-in was not until 3:00pm they checked us in because there were rooms available. We dropping our bags in the room, we headed to the dining area for breakfast. A nice spread which was very filling. After breakfast, we went across the street to catch the bus into New York City. Very convenient. It cost $3.40 each and we were let off at the Port Authority which was around 42nd street.
We then took a leasurely stroll through Manhattan window shopping and ended up around Rockefeller Center to see the huge Christmas Tree, perused through the NBC building and watched people as they skated on the skating rink. There were a lot of people out because of the Christmas hollidays. Our 4 year old wanted to go to the M&M store on Times Square so we did that without really getting anything. After a bite to eat, we took the bus back to our hotel about 3 o'clock to give the little one a chance to take a nap.
Later on that evening, we drove to Seacaucus to eat at TGIF (On route 17 about 4 miles from the hotel). After dinner, we drove into New York and had to pay the $6.00 to get through the Lincoln tunnel. It took us a while to get to Times Square but what a beautiful site. Trafic was really bad so after a bit, we went back to the hotel.
It later snowed that evening and in the morning, we decided to leave a bit earlier than usual because of the acumulation of snow.
Trip back was traffic free. Next time we plan on doing a bit more.
