7:55pm - Day 1 - South Bound Interstate 35 - Troy, TX
Today was the start of our trip. It has been pretty good so far... even if all it has been is a great deal of driving. We left Norman around 1pm and the town was covered in snow. It was just one day late of being a white Christmas. The Chevy Cobalt we rented is a pretty decent car and Sarah and I both enjoy driving something that is nicer then our normal junkers. We have only made two stops thus far: Starbucks in Gainesville, TX and Jack In The Box in Waco, TX. It's a big suprise that we both needed to stop and eat before the car needed fuel. Traffic has been horrible. It was wonderful from home until Ft. Worth, but after Ft. Worth things went downhill. There was some kind of accident on I-35 north of Waco that caused the highway to be shut down for a period of time. I guess the flow of traffic never quite recovered because we have been bumper to bumper for quite a while. I suppose it's not really a big deal. I'm enjoying spending time with Sarah and away from the stresses of home. I look forward to seeing my good friends in San Antonio and then exploring places I've never seen. So 311.5 miles away from my door step we are on our way to a great week, listening to The Snake The Cross The Crown (while Sarah sings along), and enjoying ourselves.
My Girlfriend and I are leaving for San Antonio on Tuesday. Visiting some friends in town there. The idea of making a video documentary is a great idea. I am thinking of taking a ton of pictures and making a picture documentary as we don't have a video camera.
My daughter is down there now, doing nursing care for ElPaso and Juarez, Mexico. Hope they get to site see. That seems to be a beautiful location. Lots of mountains surround it. Hope they are safe.
Well will be renting a car for this one since it is a good deal of miles. We also bought a video camera and hope to produce a documentarty style DVD of our trip and experiences complete with a soundtrack. In fact I've already got the playlist for this roadtrip burnt to the CD and we are ready to rock out. Here is a list of the jams we'll be pumping for a great deal of the 30 hours or more of drive time..
