LANGKAWI FAMILY DAY 2007

day 1

took air asia flight to langkawi. flight from kuala lumpur lcct to langkawi is about 30mins.

holiday villa hotel - i like the lobby - very big. i like the breakfast buffet here - delicious cheese omelette, waffles, etc.  this hotel is ok. quite expensive. a bit old. the bed linen and blanket got a bit smell. the beach is beautiful. the swimming pool is big.

underwater world langkawi - nice. got sharks, penguins (?), sea lions, sting rays, sea horses, snake (?), etc. great outing for family with kids.

langkawi cable car in mt. mat cincang - very2 nice. i enjoyed this very much. the ride has 2 pit stops all the way to the end, so you can go out and take photos over-looking the mountains and andaman sea.

dinner at wan thai restaurant in kuah town - seafood restaurant. not that expensive. delicious.

after dinner - went to stadium to celebrate malaysia 50th independence day.

day 2

kuah town - shop, shop & shop! langkawi is a duty-free zone. idaman suri got lots of stuff. no need to go anywhere else if you don't like walking too much.

dataran lang - lang is short for helang (eagle). yes, there's this big eagle statue over-looking the sea here. nice place to take photos.

day 3

woke up early for island hopping trip at 9am. we booked this trip through our hotel porter. we took 2 motor-boats. 1 boat = rm300. 1 boat can fit in 10 people. so rm30 per person. if not group-booking, it's rm40 per person.

this trip is a 3 hours trip and we will stop at 3 islands.

1st stop - pulau dayang bunting. pulau = island.  dayang = princess' helpers / butler (girl).  bunting = pregnant.  the mountain in this island does look like a pregnant lady.  hike up the mountain, there's a lake - tasik dayang bunting. please ask the boatman to lend you the life-jacket so that you can swim in the lake.

2nd stop - pulau singa besar for eagle-feeding. singa means lion. besar means big. i don't know whether this island has a big lion or not because we just sat in the boat for the eagle-feeding session. the boatman will thrown a bucket of chicken fat into the sea, and the eagles will eat them. this sight is amazing because you can watch like 50 eagles up in the air and surrounding you. breath-taking.

3rd stop - 1 hour swimming at pulau beras basah. beras means uncooked rice. basah means wet. this island is the typical white sandy beach and crystal clear water. here u have the banana boat and para-sailing. note that this island does not have a toilet. i don't know why. so make sure that you go to the toilet in your hotel before this whole island hopping trip. otherwise, u may have some serious problems.

i had a lot of fun. i recommend this island hopping trip to everyone. it's cheap too!

dinner - sun bay restaurant. malay cuisine. delicious but a bit expensive. sunbay restaurant is situated in the same row with holiday villa hotel.

day 4

shop till we drop (till our flight back to k.l)

flight supposed to be at 6pm, but it was delayed till 11pm. air asia is popular with their delays. well i guess you can't have everything - cheap flights but risk in delays.
