San Cristobal Hill Metropolitan Park

Santiago, Chile has one of the largest urban parks in the world (722 hectareas or 1785 acres), just located in the downtown of this cosmopolitan 6-million people metropolis.
It's called "San Cristobal Hill" ("Cerro San Cristobal") . This lush park includes a 4.5 hectareas  zoo (Jardin Zoologico), a cable car, international gardens and restaurants. Ideal for tourists, , outdoors sports, trecking, hiking, mountain bikin, panoramic swimming pool (Chilean summer, seasons are reversed). At the top of San Cristobal Hill, there are spectacular panoramic views of the city. Crowning the hilltop are beautiful tiered gardens and an impressive 45ft (15m) statue of the Virgin of the Immaculate Conception that can be seen from most points in the city. (For Christians: here are open-air Religious services every Sunday noon).  In the winter, it's a must go especially after a winter storm, the snowed Andes is shown in glory and beautiful majesty to take great shots!
The climate is pleasant due its Mediterranean regime, similar to LA or Southern Europe, just consider that seasons are the opposite in Chile.
How to get there? Easy by subway (Metro Baquedano Station) is excellent, clean and cheap. It costs about 50 cents a ride and the french-modern train seems to always come in a few minutes.
