Welcome to Pittsburgh!
Such a great trip that I'm planning another one in 2011 and doing it all over again!
My friend and I are big sports fans so of course the first day was when we had to visit all of the sports arenas. First stop was PNC Park (parking was free on the street). Baseball wasn't in season but that didn't matter to us- we still wanted to see the field and it was worth the stop. We went in the gift shop and didn't think we'd be able to see much but lucky for us when we walked around to the outfield, the gate was open and we were able to walk behind the outfield and get some pictures taken. Beautiful ballpark.
We walked around in that area to find lunch because there were several little restaurants there and after looking at some restaurants menus and wanting something to fill us up we stopped into ATRIA's right next to the field. It was a great little restaurant and if it had been warmer outside we definitely would've eaten out on their patio but due to the weather we opted for their indoor seating in the second room. At first they wanted to put us in their first room but it was extremely crowded and up some stairs and it almost felt like an attic. I ended up ordering the Tomato Vodka Florentine and it was fantastic! Definitely would have again and is a very filling portion.
Next up was Heinz Field which was actually just down the street and also free parking. It was in season but no game that day so we just visited the gift shop which was neat because it was actually just inside the gates so you can see into Heinz field through gates as well as see the concourse which was pretty nice. Then we walked around on the grounds which was considered Pointe Park and we had a great time taking pictures
To top off the arenas, our last stop was Mellon Arena. Once again there wasn't a hockey game going on, but we were able to visit the arena to see the Stevie Wonder concert. The tickets were gotten by a friend of ours and it was definitely worth the experience for years to come haha. We got to see the classic arena so we were happy about that and got in a show while we were at it so a good time was had by both of us. We knew that a new arena was coming and were just glad to be able to get our feet in the door before it was history.
