We hit the road around 10:30 AM. It is pretty late. However, I didn't pay too much attention to the GPS guide. The route from GPS is not the optimized one. Also, I still need the LA map to have a good sense of direction. It only take about 5 hours to enter the juction of I-5 and I-210. At the juction, the time is around 5:30 PM. Original plan was to go to Din Tai Fung for dumpling first. However, Dennis Liu is not able to meet us at the restrauant. So, we decide to go directly to Irvin first. But, this is the 1st mistake I made. Then, I stuck in the traffic of I-5. The bumper to bumper traffic take us almost 3 hour to reach Irvin. We should go directly to have dinner first. By the time we finish the dinner around 8 PM, I-5 will no longer be traffic jammed. Then, we dine at Dennis Liu's place. His house is about 20 minutes from our resort in Newport Beach. When we reach the resort, it is already 10 PM. But, it is really a good resort. The neighbor is very quite. The view is spectular the next day I look out from our living room window.
Samuel woke up pretty early in the morning around 8 AM. As for me, I got up around 8:30. With the oakmeal and rice cake for breakfast. Quite satisfied with the nice breakfast. Fanny bring a lot of snacks. However, it didn't quench our hunger with this kind of food. I was surprised that from Newport Beach to Legoland(Carlsbad) only took me about 40 minutes. The toll road(route 73) is pretty handy from our resort. The toll charge is $4.5. However, we can also take highway 1 instead of route 73. The ocean view from Hightway 1 is spectular. I really like the house on the mountain top. The view with the pacific ocean must be magnificent. Maybe someday, I can retire in such high prestige neighborhood. Legoland open from 10AM to 5 PM. However, sun set around 4:30PM. Samantha and Samuel did enjoy their day in Legoland. I am very tired althought. It must be a long drive from Sunnyvale to Newport Beach yesterday. At 2 PM, I felt sleepy and take a nap at the bench. Also, I didn't have enough food with me for lunch. Even I grep a burger for lunch around 2 PM. But, it is too late for the lunch. Also, Samantha didn't have food for lunch. She constantly cry out to get more food. We only get a Subway sandwitch on the Carlsbad city. But, this is not a good food for a strenous day like this. We left the park around 4:30PM. On the way back to resort, we took a differnt route. This time, we took Highway 1. But, the traffic is pretty bad on I-5 again. It took us about 90 minuts to be back to hotel. After get some food, Leonard and I decided to go to Ranch 99 to get our grocery/supply. Actually, Ranch 99 is only about 15 minutes drive from our hotel. We bought quite a lot of food for the hot-pot.
With the experience from yesterday, I made couple sandwitch for lunch. Also, on the junction of Highway 1 and I-5, we stop by the Mc Donald store for some burgers and chicken nuggets for Sam. The view in Highway 1 is spectular. There are also several state beach/park along the route. We should really find a chance to visist those park. On one occasion, I made a turn and try to visit the ocean. By accidenet, I hit the Ritz Carlton Hotel near San Clemente. Also, the house on the mountian range must have spectular ocean view. It's quiet a new place to retire if I am a millionair. Dennis's family also meet us at the park. We bought a lego set and mug with Samantha name on it.
The Shamu show.
Dennis have Isabel to play with Samuel and Samantha.
The traffic from hotel to Anaheim is not too bad. It only take about 20 minutes. The best route should be: route 73($1.5 toll) -> route 55 (north) -> I-5.
There are 2 stollers with us. But, it cause a problem to ride the Lion Tram. We should probably just rent a stroller in the DisneyLand. It can really save us the trouble. Also, the stroller rented from Park can accomodate Jeffrey and Sam both. Samantha favorite are princess fairy land. This time, the line is OK. However, we still have time to experiecne all the rides and activities in Disneyland. The parades is magnificent but it was so crowded. Luckily, there are 3 scheduled parades @ 3PM, 6PM, 9PM every day. Also, there is fire work display @ 9PM parade. But, we really can't stay that late. However, it is hard to find a place to take a break during stay. Alan's parents suggested to stay in the baby center.
By the time we leave the park around 7:00PM, I really didn't feel very well, so were Jeffrey. For the next 3 days of the trip, both us are ill. We cough and sneeze. That conclude my vacation. The thing that I was sorry is not able to visit the Newport Beach and it's neighborhood. It is such nice neighborhood.
Since I was ill, Fanny and Samantha have to go to Disneyland by their own. While I stay in the hotel to take care of Jeffrey who suffer from the flu as I did. So, I drive them to Disneyland and drop them off in the Drop-off zone. I already make the mark on the GPS. Then, bring Jeffrey back with me to the hotel. However, he woke up on our way back to hotel. He constantly cry on the van. It leave me to choice to exit the I-5 and try to calm him down. However, it only work for couple minutes. Then, I decided to fast forward on the road and ignore his annoyance. But, I start to worry how I'm going to pick up Fanny/Samantha in the evening if Jeffrey is still fuzzying.
It is quite a surprise that checking out from this hotel is so easy. We decide to stop-by Dennis Liu place to leave out grocery to him. We also gave them our remaining 1-day pass to Disneyland. Checking with Dennis if the I-5 will be traffic jam during this time which was 11 AM. Actually, it take us about 80 minutes from Irvin to hit I-5/I-210 juction. Actually, I should try I-450 as I origina planned. At work today(01/02) I checked with Hanson who is UCLA alumni, he told me that traffic is bad in I-450 as well. The junction I-450/I-10 is the the place that was jammed.
On the way to LA, should stop by Rowland High for dinner.
On the way back to San Jose, should stop by Montreal Park.
