We left home at 4:00 am. Beginning mileage 5938.
At about 6:15 we stopped at Travel Centers of America at Council Bluffs for gas and breakfast. $32.70-12.6 gal. $22.97, Texas omelet, Long haul breakfast, juice and coffee.
We arrived at the Machine Shed in Davenport, IA at 11:15 for lunch. Very good food. $16.89 for soup and 1/2 sandwich for each of us.
Stopped at Rochelle, IN for gas 15.7 gal-$45.60.
The traffic driving to our hotel was bumper to bumper, what should have taken 10 minutes took 45. Arrived at the Comfort Suites at 3:00. $297.33 for 3 nights-great service at check-in, enjoyed the rooms (living and bedroom). After checking in we headed to the train station at Forest Park. We took our first ride to the subways of Chicago, saw a couple of guys urinating at the train station (wish I had the camera ready!) $9.00 for round trip ride for 2.
Arrived at downtown Chicago at 5:00 had a couple of sandwiches at the Corner Bakery Cafe on Michigan Ave. $13.87. Went on the 6:30 Wendella Sightseeing Boat Tour $44.00. It was chilly and windy-didn't mind that until it started to rain. Luckily the boat has a lower deck so we were protected from the elements. Although it made it difficult to see all the buildings. The tour was very informative. We each had a mixed drink at the bar for $16.00 (we thought that was pricey but later found out that was about average for 2 drinks-back at home we very seldom pay more than $3.00 for a drink).
Back to the hotel for our first night. Made a quick stop at Walmart for a few items (pop and munchies).
