New Journal Entry
We landed in Guadalajara, Mex. from here we rented a small car and headed out to explore the area.
On our way to San Luis, Potosi, we stopped in San Juan de Los Lagos. This is where people go to fulfill their "mandas". When you ask the Virgin Mary to fulfill a request, in return you often offer to go see her in person, some people offer to enter the church kneeling, many people start this outside the church and will proceed to enter the church on their knees while praying. It is rough.
It is a popular destination in Mexico, My husband and I have been here before but not my children. I wanted them to experience this area. The church is breath taking to see in person, once outside you will be approached by everyone trying to sell everything under the sun. The church is also surrounded by many small out door eateries. Not much room for snobbiness here, just walk across the street look for an area and sit down to eat.
Parking is very difficult to find, we found a man that offer an off-street parking in a (unofficial) lot, you can expect to
pay about the equivalent of $3 - $5 american dollars for unlimited parking. not bad at all..
We spent about 1/2 day here and proceeded to San Luis Potosi.
