Trip begins and ends in San Antonio, Texas. It is a circle route through Los Angeles, Seattle and Chicago. The scheduling of the trains dictated the stays in the various cities but I guess if you had unlimited time, you could obviously stay longer. The "things to do" lists are not what I will be able to do, I just included them as points of interest to other browsing my trip.

Planning

Today is September 22, 2007.

I am planning my first train trip and my first time using Yahoo Travel. It looks like a good tool. Be sure and click on the Schedule and Map tabs above to look over the trip.

Today is January 2, 2008

and my trip has been postponed. I will update actual dates as I go along but I wanted to put a note in here for future travelers.

Read the fine print for YAHOO / TRAVELOCITY FOR RESERVATIONS.

I was charged a 25.00 cancell fee, 26 days out, for a hotel reservation in Seattle. My hotels along the way in San Antonio, Los Angeles and Chicago were all cancelled without incident. The agent was polite but informed me of the policy and I politely informed her I would not be using Yahoo travel again. Heads up, read the fine print. It was my bad, I just assumed that the travel would be like other companies. No trouble with Amtrak, Travelnow or Staybridge. Just one of those things

I have ridden the Amtrak once; earlier this year. It was something I have always wanted to try. Hopefully your trip will be a lot more sanitary. However, I'm glad I had the trip experience. I use yahoo travel to make my plans, but I am going to try to remember not to schedule my hotels through them anymore. I keep forgetting about that cancellation policy. Thanks for bringing that up.
