We are moving from Hawaii to Georgia. We are shipping the car to Seattle and flying there. Then we hit the road and will visit family, friends & sites in many places including the following: Seattle, WA; Spokane, WA; Great Falls, MT; Yellowstone National Park; the Black Hills, SD; Mt. Rushmore; Fargo, ND; Minneapolis, MN; Wisconsin; Chicago, IL; Clinton, KY; Nashville, TN; and finally Atlanta, GA! We are doing this with three kids - boy, 10; boy, 8; & girl 5. This should be crazy! We need to get there by the time our stuff arrives in a container.

Weelll...I don't know if it's being crammed into smaller spaces or not being motivated because of all the boxes around and stuff, but we are looking like a slob family with the mess around here! It could be that I know I have a good cleaning right around the corner and don't want to bother until that??? It just seems like there's mess everywhere. I think my insanity is slowly leaking out the hole in the ozone layer!!!

Hi Sarah and 'ohana. I'm so excited for you guys. Road trips are so much fun. Yes they have their challenges, but overall you're going to create unforgettable memories. I've taken many road trips, being from the mainland, and I loved it. Take the time to stop and enjoy the beauty of the U.S. If you get a chance to go through New Mexico do it. That was one of my favorites. When you get to Georgia you'll have to start saying "ya'll" and "ya hear?" I'm going to miss seeing you guys at church. You're family is so nice. You are going to be blessed though wherever you go. Jesus is on your side. Love you guys God Bless you! Traci, Nalu ,and Wehilani

So have you charted a route yet? Across then down? As it is September, that may be the most colorful. or down then across? or diagonal?

Hey Chris,
It's kind of across and then down since we have family & friends in Fargo & Minneapolis, but we are dipping down for Yellowstone and then heading back up again. It's something like this: Seattle, WA - Spokane, WA - Great Falls, MT - then dip south to Yellowstone Nat'l Park, WY - Deadwood & Lead, SD - then back north to Medora, ND - Fargo, ND - Minneapolis, MN - Lake Geneva, WI - Chicago, IL - Champaign, IL - Clinton, KY - Nashville, TN - Lilburn, GA. It's gonna be about 4,000 miles of driving!

What's your best tip for on-the-road boredom busters for the kids?

a bag full of surprises! LOL of course at raegan's age the surprises are lollipops, lip gloss, mirrors, etc. you would need games, coloring books, road trip bingo, etc. and you keep the stash and pull it out when needed. if all else fails, keep benadryl on hand! LOL Just kidding.

ps: dad and ron are crazy!

Sounds messy...I'll take the Benadryl idea. LOL

Was great to have the opportunity for dinner and a game of scrabble before you leave. Wish we could have hosted you in St. Louis, but one just never knows what's arounf the bend. Sorry to see you go, but I know they need at least one Vikings fan in Atlanta...besides, Kalani needs someone tall to pick on him. Look forward to visiting in Georgia. As for travelling with kids, something we have a fair amount of experience with, take the time to stop and smell the roses at parks and rest stops....stretch, kick a ball, throw a frisbee, climb a hill and call 100 head of cattle over to the children (I suceeded at this at a rest stop once) As for the modern convenience of movies in the car while travelling, I recommend the Waltons season sets from Wal-mart. Our kids watch an entire season on each trip accross the country we've taken. God Speed as you go to your new, HOT, Muggy and yet fruit-filled (great peaches)wide-open spaces new home. The Joy is in the journey, not just getting to the destination. Aloha, C.J. family
