We walked from the Hilton Caribe to Old San Juan and the El Morro Fort. This is one of the more interesting things we did. I am not a fan of walking all over the place with no purpose but I never got bored and found many interesting things. We are taking lessons to become better photographers. Some of the photos below are a part of our assignment that I felt like sharing.
Here is a pic of me at the El Morro with the Old San Juan coast line in the background.
This pic is part of the assignment to find contrast and color. This is a window on the lighthouse at El Morro.
I really like the looks of this casa in old san juan. Interesting colors and palm trees on the top of the house.
On of the awesome courtyards in the old san juan district.
Towards the south end of old san juan was a plaza with these chairs sitting in them, cool huh?
Daidra doing what she does best! Shopping in the shops of old san juan. She liked this little dress so much we ended up purchasing it. Plus everywhere women in Puerto Rico wear short dresses. Just an FYI.
That night we went to the highly recommended Metropol restaurant. VERY GOOD. I recommend the cuban chicken. And be careful, it seemed like everything in Puerto Rico was fried two or three times. Not the healthiest eating we found. But the beans and rice, no matter where you get them are AWESOME.
You will here that many people fall victem to shootings including shootings from car to car in some cases, but this is very rare and never does it involve tourist, not too long ago a puerto rican american tourist went to italy and got gun down because he had a rolex watch. so my friends be smart when traveling even to florida like in disney world travel lite with no ipads of jewalry and never show large amounts of money, if some ask you for spare change just say no and don't feel bad about it, you must never open a purse in public in NY why would you do so in San Juan, if you must hold on to it around your body somehow. now i know i sound paronoid but you must know for an island with a large population like puerto rico is it amazing to see it very clean with very, very, very friendly natives and if you are wise you can have what i think is the best true Caribbean vacation or wedding of cruese ship stop also have fun with our politics, remenber america is the home of the brave, so come and enjoy. please forgive my spelling. pastor A... First, Bebos - a local pork & chicken BarB-Q that is not only uniquely Puerto Rican but absolutely delicious. The best one is the one near the airport, but it looks a little "primative". If that scares you off, try the one in the Condado. They are good too.
Second, Chez - a local Churrosco restaurant, between Isla Verde and Old San Juan. Amazing local food and very few tourists. All the cabs know how to get there. They may be suprised you know about it.
Third, La Playa - A small hotel (15 rooms) and restaurant/bar, on the water about two blocks from the Metropol. Faces East; a great place to "have a beer in the afternoon"; no sun in your face. It faces the airport, so seeing the planes taking off and the moon rising are both pluses. Try the Medalia beer (local), it is the best.
By the way, if you are at the Metropol, try the pulpo (octopus) salad and the lamb shanks, they are the best. We live a block away and eat there two or three times a week. It is one on the best values in the San Juan area.
We loved it so much that the wife and I are headed back next week. No kids so there will be more beach time and more bar time. Can't say enough about PR!
