Recap!
The trip was a ton of fun, definitely tiring from all of the driving!
Monday
We left for Mackinac City around noon, and got there within 3.5 hours. That evening, we spent some time at the Water park and and in the jacuzzi at the hotel. The hotel was quite nice. For 10 dollars more per night, we were able to get a lakeview room, beautiful!! The only downside, in my opinion, was the "beach" front property of the hotel. The shore was actually a clay bottom, and as a Lake Michigan native, it wasn't up to par.
That evening, we drove across the bridge and had dinner at Bentely's B N L Cafe in downtown St. Ignace. It was a small little mom & pop restaurant, food was good! The sunset cruise was run through the Star Line, however Arnold has a sunset cruise as well, but I believe it runs on different evenings. The entire ferry was full but it had great views the entire night, and I had plenty of great photo ops! The crew was great, very nice & entertaining. They were fun, and helped make it a light atmosphere.
Tuesday
We woke up and left for the ferry around noon. We took the Star Line once again, since the hotel we stayed at offered $3 off coupons for tickets. The one thing I regret is not purchasing their discount package of Ferry Tickets + Carriage Tour tickets, since we ended up on the Carriage Tour regardless. The ride to the island was quick, and as soon as we stepped off of the ferry, we could smell the horses. It was a gorgeous Main St. though, very packed, and VERY warm! An unusual 90 degree day for the island. We stopped at The Pink Pony Bar & Grill for lunch, it was a big mistake all around. I wasn't impressed by the food, the service, or the heat. I made it worse by choosing a "great view" and deciding that we would eat on the deck. IT ended up being a HUGE mistake for the day's heat. However, I still wouldn't recommend stopping there. Also, the menu was limited in it's choices.
After lunch, we bought tickets for the carriage tour, which was about a 45 minute wait. We walked in and out of Main St. shops to avoid the heat. The tour went well, it takes place in two segments, and both of our guides were friendly. We stopped at all of the landmark locations. We opted out of Fort Mackinac. After purchasing some fudge and ice cream, we headed home.
The major regret I have about the trip on the island is that we should have rented bikes and did our own bike tour around the entire island, to see the parts of the State Park that the Carriage tour did not cover. My boyfriend also regrets not stopping in the island, but I think the heat got the both of us.
That evening, we had dinner at The Chippewa Room in Mackinac City. We also stopped by Mackinac Crossings and looked around.
We left early the next day, checkout was smooth, the staff at the hotel were efficient and friendly.
