When I asked my son, Ian Thomas (13 years old, grade 7), where he wanted to spend his time this holiday, he spontaneously answered Hong Kong! Actually I had been to Hong Kong many times before, may be almost 10 times, but mostly for business trip and usually was just short trips lasting 2
or 3 days. I love Hong Kong and I do not have any objections to go back there. But this time, I want
to have a comprehensive trip, not only to Hong Kong but also to Macau and Shenzhen, China.
I booked my airline 1 month before. And 2 weeks after that I started to make a trip planner using Yahoo travel. It was very useful for me, I can read the journal and trip planner from others. That’s why I decided to write my journal, I want to share my experience to others as well. I hope this journal is helpful to all of you.
After that, I booked my hotel in Hong Kong. Actually you can book a hotel online via Internet, there are a lot of economical hotels in Hong Kong. I got a reference from my friend in Indonesia about Famous Guest House in Kowloon. I am interested in this hotel because the hotel location is in Nathan road, Kowloon. It is the best location, near tourist area. And price is considerably very cheap. It has 2 beds and bathroom but with no breakfast. The other reason is the hotel owner was living in Indonesia, but
he is Hong Kong citizen now.
Instead of some clothes, other important preparation are, exchange some Rupiah to Hong Kong dollar bank notes, bring two pairs of shoes (because it is a long trip), hat, umbrella, compass, Sony HandyCam, DSLR Canon camera including the memory card, battery charger and tripod. I also bring my external hard disk with card reader to back up my camera memory card. I have to apply visa for China because I am going to Shenzhen China. For Hong Kong and Macau I do not have to apply visa. But it depends on your country, you have to check it in China embassy.
I do a lot of “research” about Hong Kong. I checked in Internet everything about Hong Kong including the city map, the transportation map, food & restaurant, the tourist places, weather, asking around to travel agents as well. So I have a lot of information about Hong Kong. I found a very useful website about Hong Kong, please check at www.discoverHongKong.com. It is made by Hong Kong Tourism Board and I got a lot of information from this site.
This journal not only consists of my trip experience but I also add some additional information that I got from Internet and some brochures as well. You will find that this is a long journal, but I hope it will help you a lot to shorten your time to do some researches.
I wrote some other trip journals, if you want to read it, you can check these links:
· Hong Kong – Macau - Shenzhen (this journal)
· Europe
Those are journals of my trip and Ian go together. Unfortunately, I did not write a trip journal that I go alone without Ian.
To keep me motivated writing my trip journal, simply click 'I Like This Trip' link in the top right and if you can leave your comment, it is even better. Thanks.
Hope you enjoy it.
It really give me a lot of useful information for my trip this April.
Thanks. Cheers.
