Today will probably be our longest drive of the whole trip. We drove over six hundred miles today, and luckily all the traffic delays were in the opposite direction. We passed a Motorhome completely burned, with fire and police all around. The traffic was backed up over five miles, with some people tossing a football around in the median. Now the motel story, we picked up some information when we arrived in NC including some info on Motels. We knew we wanted to stay In Rocky Mount, so I started calling some motels there asking for rates. The first one I called was a Rodeway Inn that looked great in the brochure. The rate 29.95 including a breakfast, wow, what a deal. When we got there, the outside of the Motel look just fine (remember it is only 29.95). On the phone they said they had wireless internet. The lobby looked ok, maybe a little bit rundown, but I have seen worse. I checked in, went to the room, inserted the key card into the lock, it turned green, but the door wouldn't open. After several tries, a young employee of the motel asked if we were having troubles, He came down tried the keycard, didn't open for him either, so He tried it again, this time after the light turned green, he put his shoulder into the door and it opened. We walked into the room, it was pretty run down, including a smoke sensor that was torn off the wall. I tried the wireless and it didn't work, tried to use the phone to call the front desk, it didn't work either. Enough was enough, I went to the front desk and informed them that we wern't staying. The deleted the credit card charge and we found a much better motel down the street (comfort inn) had to pay $49, but was a great motel. Tomorrow, Steve and Patties and the grandsons, really looking forward to seeing them again
I guess road trips are exciting. You get to see so many amazing things which you may miss otherwise. I am planning to go on a road trip from Dallas to Georgia, passing through 3 states in between-Louisiana, Mississippi,& Alabama. Hope it will be great. I love traveling to new places & have visited 20 countries so far....
I'm glad you enjoyed Niagara Falls: I've lived within 2 hours of it my entire life and only went on the Maid this past summer with my kids. Boy have I missed out! I also love your descriptions of the western leg of your trip: my family has always headed south and east but the western parts of North America are where I want to head next. You've made them sound hard to resist!
My hubby and I are thinking of flying from Nashville to maybe Portland OR and renting a car and doing the Oregon coast anyone who has done this and would make suggestion as to where to go and things to see would be great!
Awesome photos! FYI, "shoo fly" pie is one of the best "Dutch" pies ever made. Had you tried it on your way thru PA? You should have! If purchased from the Amish, it would have been good, I'm sure, they make the best. Been to Niagara Falls too, many years ago. It's beautiful! We've been to Nashville, Pigeon Forge & Gatlinburg, TN ~ love the Smokies! A view to witness first-hand! Never been west past Nashville, looks beautiful too. One day......... Thanks for sharing your trip!
Hi, just wanted to comment on your trip, it was certainly a wonderful one. I hope to do the same one day myself.. a good idea to place pins at all the places you would like to see and map it out! Thanks for sharing...
