Preparations
This is not the first day of the trip but rather the first day of preparation for the trip. It is consisting of searching the internet for hours, looking for other travelers' opinions on what to do and not do and where to stay and not stay.
As I go about this I realize I must pare down my original choices as I will not be able to see all of this in ten months, let alone ten days.

I am planning to fly from Southern Oregon to NYC in September and try to see and experience as many things as possible. This is a scouting trip for next summer when I take my saughter to NYC to celebrate her 16th birthday. My only real concern is where to find a decent hotel for us next year that will not cost an arm and a leg. Any input on this subject will be earnestly appreciated.

Looking for experiences with cheap hotels. Am considering the Hotel Riverside Studios at the moment. Anybody out there stayed there recently? Am also considering a hostel. Is that a bad idea?
