We're about to start driving! Everything is packed, the car is ready. Yesterday I picked up the car from Adventures on Wheels, located in New Jersey. The car is a black Ford Focus, year 2000. It has some minor scratches and dents, but those have been noted by the company, and it drives just fine. After getting the car I had to get it back to New York of course. That's already 70 miles, especially if you take some detours (in other words: get lost..). It started already at the George Washington bridge, which leads into Manhattan. There was a long traffic jam there, and when I finally got off the bridge, I missed my exit, so I ended up in downtown Harlem..

After some time I finally got back on the road northbound towards Yonkers, where I had decided to park the car (much easier and cheaper than downtown Manhattan). But also the train station in Yonkers proved to be difficult to find. Driving itself is quite easy in the USA (especially with an automatic transmission), but finding your way is much more difficult! Especially as the road signs are unclear and less frequent. Anyway, we did manage to find the way back from Yonkers to Ossining at night and now we're ready to hit the road!
Today we're planning to drive to the Finger lakes region (where I also went last weekend) and stay somewhere around Ithaca. By driving via Port Jervis we home to get some nice scenic views instead of the highways. And of course the Finger lakes region is famous for the wine! :)
I'm from Hungary and I'm just planning a road trip in the USA very similar to yours. Could you give me a rough estimation on the total cost of your trip (including gas, accomodation, food, different kind of fees, etc.) Btw, there were two of yours?
