A trip from September 19, 2007 to September 25, 2007, travelling to Las Vegas
My Best Friend is getting married on September 22, 2007 … More
My Best Friend is getting married on September 22, 2007 and I am so excited about this trip!! It will be my first Vegas wedding and my first real Vegas Vacation. Trying to fit everything I want to do while I'm there is the hard part.
Las Vegas Airport My husband, Alex, and I arrived in Vegas around 5:30 pm and I must say that I was pleasantly surprised by the organization and precision in which the airport is ran. There were so many different shops to peruse and restaurants to enjoy. Vegas show posters lined up everywhere and big screen televisions were showing previews to many of the shows available on the strip. This was definitely an excellent preview for what was to come. Once I got off the plane, I headed to baggage claim where my husband and I quickly picked up our luggage and headed towards the rental car shuttles.
out of them when we arrived so we were upgraded to a Jeep Liberty for free. I The rental car shuttles were lined up one behind another waiting for guests to arrive and we were guided towards a shuttle where our bags were gathered and stored on the bus. Once the bus was full, we were transported a few miles away to the rental car center where we were promptly dropped off to pick up our car. I had reserved a vehicle with Dollar Rent a Car so we headed to the Dollar station get our vehicle for the week. We got a great deal on a compact car but they were was very happy with this vehicle - leather interior and very roomy!
**Tip - When renting a vehicle with a debit card, Dollar runs a credit inquiry with Equifax and places a $350 hold on your card until the vehicle is returned, even if you plan on paying with cash. A friend of mine using a different rental company also got a $350 hold when she picked up her vehicle, so be sure to confirm with your rental car company if this might be an issue.
Check In We headed towards the strip to the Stratosphere and got to see all the beautiful lights of the different casinos. Since it was only Wednesday, traffic was not bad at all. We checked into the Stratosphere and received a Fun Book filled with different coupons, a coupon package with 10% off at the Stratosphere restaurants, and a resort pass for different items available to guests.
We got to the room and unpacked our bags. The room was nice, clean and well prepared for our arrival and I found all the employees to be very helpful and friendly.
**Tip - Stratosphere charges a $5/day resort fee which allows you access to certain items as a guest. Items include but are not limited to free access to the pool and fitness center, free use of the laundry room, and free day trips to the observation deck.
**Tip - BEWAREof the panhandlers on the northern part of the strip.
Nine Fine Irishmen We drove over to New York New York Hotel and Casino to get some dinner. I really had my heart set on some Irish food and I knew there was a great restaurant called Nine Fine Irishmen inside the hotel. Parking was great and we got to look around the casino for a bit to check out some of the attractions. There was a lively piano bar with great music and I could see the patrons were having a great time.
We got to the Nine Fine Irishmen and had to wait about 20 minutes but it was well worth the wait! A band was inside playing Irish music and the crowd loved them. Everyone was happy, drinking their beers and hanging out. There was even a very lovely girl performing an Irish dance for the crowd.
Once we were seated, Alex ordered his pint of Guinness and we started off with the most delicious fried calamari I have ever had! For dinner, I had the Sheppard's Pie and he had the Bangers & Mash. The food was so tasty, the ambiance was perfect and we had the best time.
After dinner, we walked to the second story deck and took some pictures of the surrounding casinos. We got to see the Excalibur, Tropicana, MGM Grand and Monte Carlo. This was a great start to our vacation.
**Tip - Parking is free at the hotels on the strip. Just head to the self park section. Valet is also free at most of the hotels but it is customary to tip if you choose this option.
I think you may find some of the more known hotels will be booked for December of this year. Since it was my friend's wedding, I didn't compare the prices of different venues but I believe the hotel chapels will be more expensive. However, there are plenty of cute little wedding chapels around Vegas which should be pretty reasonably priced and probably more flexible to book a time for you in December. Just remember, anything in the heart of the strip is going to be more expensive.
PLANNING TO VISIT 10/11-10/15 STAYING DOWNTOWN, FREEMONT ST - FITZGERALDS AND CANNOT WAIT............ANXIOUS TO FIND A REALLY GOOD PLACE TO EAT...ANY SUGGESTIONS. THERE ARE 2 OF US FROM ILLINOIS, AND 3 FROM HOUSTON, TEXAS
This is an excellent account of your trip! Thank you for your great descriptions and photos. Las Vegas tourism should be thankful for your effort. You are right about seven days being just a bit too long. I find that most visitors find that they can do it all in about four days, but your trips to the outlying areas (Red Rock, Hoover Dam) are well worth it as well.
Wow what a great trip. Your descriptions and photos were excellent. I have been to Vegas twice and plan on going again only this time by myself. I have taken notes from your trip and will add some to my agenda. Thanks again I really enjoyed reading about your trip.
To anyone renting a car in Vegas go with ALAMO! I am in Vegas 3 times a year and only rent with them. You can use your DEBIT CARD and they DO NOT put a hold on your card at all. I found out the hard way the very first time with Avis.
I just wanted to tell you how much I enjoyed your pictures. That was a lot of work and you did such an amazing job. I am in Vegas several times a year and I don't even have the wonderful pictures that you captured. If you aren't a professional photographer you should be! I made a comment above regarding the rental car situation. Try Alamo next time. No hold on your debit card at all! Thanks again!
If you all go to the Stratoshere, make sure you go to the Bar on the top for a cocktail or 2. The view is unbelievable and if you can go right before the sun goes down you can see the view during the day and the night. That is a tradition on every trip to Vegas! Don't miss it!
