We made this a five day trip by leaving work at 3 p.m. Mon. and driving 6 hours to Ames Iowa to spend the night. Tuesday morning we were off early, stopping in Albert Lea and getting picnic supplies. We arrived in Minneapolis at 11 and headed straight to Lake Calhoun for lunch on the lake. It was beautiful. After a brisk walk we headed for the Mall Of America where we were to meet our tour bus at 2:00. We always allow plenty of time to get where we're going. We have been temporarily lost in many cities and at some time we knew this would be another one. For this reason we always arrive early. We took a quick look at the mall and then passed the time by taking pictures for family and groups who weren't going to get everyone in the picture. This also got us a family shot at the mall entrance.
The Twin Cities Highlight Tour was fantastic. If I had only one day this 3 hour trip would give me a great appreciation for the area. Heidi our guide went beyond regular service for our group. She let us take a quick look inside the Cathedral in St. Paul and let us go into the Guthrie and look out the balcony over the best view of the river there is in Minneapolis. I had dozens of places I wanted to see and this tour took me into, by, or near every one of them. I only had to go around and take a closer look at the ones I wanted to. Don't miss this tour if you are in town.
We checked into our motel home for three nights, the Days Inn across from the MOA. We did this for reasons of convenience and economy. We spend very little time in our room and as long as we have a bed and a bathroom we are fine.
For our evening meal we found our way to Davanni's pizza on Lyndale Ave. I happened onto this place online while looking for a hoagie roll recipe. The pizza was great and our family of 4 ate 2 mediums and one small pizza. Back home for the baseball All-Star game and we were ready for an early start the next day.
i can do just that
