The Day Before
Well, we're packing up and ready to board tomorrow early. The flight leaves around 6 AM, so we have to get there about 4 AM. Hopefully we can sleep on the plane or else we'll be a little tired. We'll see I guess. The excitement has yet to set in...probably because there is too much to worry about getting done beforehand. I'm worried we won't have time enough to do everything we want for one thing, but again, I guess we'll just have to wait and see.

Great blog, very helpful. I'm thinking of a similar trip, but think I'll carry a gas can and pepper spray! Also, when I was in NJ they had the same gas pumping law - I couldn't believe it! Thanks for the info.

Just a thought re; the comment that there isn't much between Santa Barbara and San Luis. I grew up in Lompoc which is 50 miles from SB on Hwy 1. There is La Purisma mission which is very large and very well preserved/restored compared to the other missions in Calif. There is also a Danish town, Solvang, which is off of Hwy 101 on Hwy 246 which is very touristy but very cute. Lots of shopping and food. If you were to travel into the Santa Ynez valley on Hwy 246 you would find many small wineries where you could actually talk to the winemakers and owners without much of a tasting fee. Firestone Winery is in this area. So don't discount the area between SB and SLO. You could go to these places even if you just take hwy 101 and not travel on hwy 1.

there is actually a lot to do in griffith park you probably didn't get to see all of it. there's a place to ride the mini train that you would've driven by exiting the 5. there's also horseback riding & if you further in there's a place to rent bikes & skates. There's also a merry go round & if you go far enough you'll end up at the l.a. zoo.
