Beach Trip 07

We've been to Destin the past two years, both times in March/April. Try to avoid Spring Breakers if possible. We LOVE Destin. The beach is beautiful and the food is great. We love to stay right on the beach in a condo. Have seen several dophins both times right from the beach. The Dolphin cruises are great also. The Back Porch is a great place to eat if you love seafood & fun atmosphere. It's right on the beach so attire is very casual. Already thinking about going back!

Went there last June can't say enough about how relaxed I was with 3, yes 3 children. The mall was great for a rainy day and the beach was not very crowded. I would highly recomend it.

wHATS THE WEATHER LIKE MID-MARCH IN DESTIN? LOOKIN TO PLAN FAMILY VACATION FOR SPRING BREAK

I took a family trip to Ft. Walton/Destin 5 years ago. We are now planning to go late next summer. Any advice since it has been awhile since I have been? We will be traveling with another family. There will be 4 adults and 5 kids ranging from 2 - 11 (boys and girls). We really want to stay some place with a suites with full kitchens. You can imagine what it would be like for the nine of us to go out to eat all the time.

I live in Destin and love it! When you are coming to Destin you have to watch out for scams. You can avoid rip offs by going to larger places such as AJ's and Fudpuckers or go to chain restaurants like Fridays, Chili’s and those type.
A new restaurant/ bar that is good to go too is called The Boiling Point, the food is a little over priced but it’s fun and friendly and has a huge deck with out door seating right on the water.
My favorite place to go is Harbor Docks, amazing food, amazing atmosphere, and lots of fun. If you like Japanese hibachi and sushi this is the place for you! When buying drinks here be careful. You will get scammed. If you buy a drink for $4.50 and you give her a $20 the odds are that you will get change for 5 $1’s and 1 $5 bill and then you will tip her a dollar and she just walk away with a $6 dollar tip. I’ve been caught with this 3 or 4 times, at first I thought it was an accident but it has happened to everyone I know that goes there. How to avoid this, give exact change or close to it. Then tip her when your drink gets back.
If you are looking for a night life every night you are down here, follow the drink specials. The cost of living here is unbelievable and how much most people get paid is almost bellow minimum wage. But people live here to party and are very good at it. There is a place to drink every night of the week and have fun. Your front desk employee’s are usually younger and will know where to go on any giving night.
If you like to golf Destin is the place for you, there are something like 360 holes of golf in Destin. Ask the place you are staying before you make tee time, Some times they have deals worked out with certain courses.
Kids, there is so much stuff to do down here its unbelievable.
The best thing to know when coming here is that locals hate tourists. The sad thing is that most of the locals are to dumb to relies that they cant live here with out the tourist. So do and see a lot of touristy things and its ok to go to the local joints but don’t be surprised if you not that welcome at some of the places.

We loved Destin in 2005 and are looking forward to going back in 2008. We will be Spring Breakin' for my son's senior year. Martin, for dinner, try going at 4p, if you can stand it, instead of 5p; you will miss the traffic. Loved Hooters, although, as a mom, I was pretty embarrassed, but the food is great. Loved Fudpuckers---make sure to take plenty of Sharpies. Loved Outback. Loved the Mall. Loved the Busted Knuckle cycle shop. Wasn't real crazy about the Holiday Inn Express---they refused to keep the noise down, but whadya expect---Spring Break week, and all. I would love to find decent priced housing to move there, from Indiana. :)

This was our family's second year in a row in Destin. Last year we went the 3rd week in June, but this year went the first week. The weather was cold and the beach had red/yellow flags (windy) all week. We love Destin and tried to make the most of it. However, the traffic has gotten worse and we will not be going back. Try to go to dinner in the evening and it is a nightmare. Love the beach, hate the traffic...we are headed to Hawaii next year!

if u go to destin u MUST go to the Donut Hole for breakfast!!!
