i have to agree with you about Stewart Beach -- they were not friendly at all... there are several other beaches, that charge nothing, that are nicer along the seawall and farther done when you go past the Wal-mart ... you can bring your own tent, umbrella, chairs, grills, etc ...

I went last year and that is what was told to me then i found out from an insider that its because of the Potential of trouble at the top. If you go there and go see the battleship you need to stop at the restaurant "Monument Inn" right at the ferry it has the BEST sea food in all of the Houston, Galveston area.
