Bukit Timah Nature Reserve
Like Central Park in New York, the Bukit Timah Reserve is an isolated island of nature amongst the hustling and bustling of an ultra-modern city.
Bukit Timah Hill is the highest point in Singapore, a signpost proudly announces at the top the hill. Sounds pretty hardcore, huh? Really it's not a big deal. The ascent took about 20 minutes, max. I realized how terribly I'm out of shape and got some good exercise climbing up the windy path. Most people come to exercise on Sunday mornings, so I felt right at home panting and sweating. There was a steady stream of people, but it was not crowded. The air was fresh, but uncomfortably humid (disclaimer: I've been living in a pretty dry state in the U.S.).
As a piece of nature away from the bustling city, Bukit Timah Hill was a place of serenity and renewal. Birds were chirping and crickets were singing. I felt the stress and stiffness from the previous days' international flight melt away. Surrounded by tall greenery, I feel relaxed and energized. I'd come here every morning if I could.
To escape the city, its crowds and stress, visit some other nature attractions, Marina Park and the Botantical Garden.

West Mall is a good shopping complex, with a movie theatre at the top floor and a supermarket in the basement. The food court is also quite good. I would also recommend Junction 8 at Bishan
