When we arrived in Chattanooga our first stop was at Rock City. I have always wanted to visit Rock City since seeing the barn roofs painted black with the words See Rock City on the roof. We were not disappointed. The views are breathtaking and the rock formations are some of the most interesting ones I have ever seen. This formation is called Mushroom Rock for obvious reasons. There is something for all ages. It is relaxing walking around the gardens at our pace. There were plenty of places to sit down and just enjoy the view.
We spent several hours at Rock City and it is a place that we will come back to over and over.
We saw many ages visiting Rock City and everyone seemed to be having a great time. Even the teenagers had a rock climbing wall to climb up.
After Rock city we drove into Chattanooga to eat at a place named Cheeburger Cheeburger. A friend had recommended it. It got a thumbs down in our book, the resturant was dirty and the hamburgers were dry.
Friday night we went to a Murder Mystery Dinner at the Vaudville Cafe. It was a hoot. The acting was over the top but everyone was having a lot of fun. There was a pretty good Italian buffet. This is something we would do again.
Saturday morning we were off to the incline railway. It was interesting but I probably wouldn't ride it again. It is an engineering wonder but there isn't that much to look at.
Our next stop Saturday was Ruby Falls. I don't have any pictures from Ruby Falls because our tour of the cavern was so rushed. The tour guide was pleasant but she had to get us in and out in a certain number of minutes. We felt like we had to jog through the cavern. Being a little older, it would have been nice if we could have taken a little more time to walk through the caves.
Saturday lunch was at the Boathouse in Chattanooga. The Boathouse is beside the Tennessee River and you can eat out on the deck overlooking the river. We had planned on eating seafood here, but when we smelled the bar-b-que as we got there and we were hooked.
Saturday night we travelled to Whitwell, TN about 35 miles from Chattanooga for the Old Buttonwillow Church Civil War Dinner Theater. The food was from old Southern recipes, many of them coming from Jefferson Davis Southern Whitehouse. The show was a conversation between between a brother who is a union officer and his younger sister who has sided with the south. The show was entertaining, but also provided us with an informative history lesson. The gift shop was great. We brought home some peach cider that didn't last long.
Sunday morning we discovered the Raccoon Caverns. The caverns were beautiful and the tour guide allowed us to take as much time as we needed. This was a nice tour that we will probably take again.
Sunday afternoon we played some minature golf at Sir Goony's. It was fun, but the course needs some repairs. Kids would love this place, in addition to golf, there are go karts.
Sunday night was our cruise on the Southern Belle. The cruise was beautiful, we spent most of the time out on the deck just soaking up the beautiful view. We had prime rib for dinner that was excellent.
Thank You
