OK, I AM WORKING ON OUR SCHEDULE, WHICH, OF COURSE, CAN ALWAYS CHANGE.
July:
July 14: London CJ and Greg arrive at 11:45am London time. I meet them at Heathrow and we go to Holiday Inn. They sleep/relax and we may hit a pub in Leister Square or Covent Garden. There is the Porter House Pub in Covent that serves banana bread beer!
July 15: London Continue staying at Holiday Inn (we're so spoiled). We will tour the city via bus/tube (Big Ben, Parliament, etc) - go inside Westminster Abbey (www.westminster-abbey.org). At night we will ride the London Eye.
July 16: London We leave Holiday Inn with our bags (or store them there, if they allow). We will take the train or bus to see Stonehenge (www.stonehenge.co.uk) in the morning. We come back and hit the parks and markets (markets first b/c they close by 7pm usually). After a night of pubs and random other things, we take the Stansted Express (www.stanstedexpress.co.uk) to Stansted Airport and sleep/relax there until our flight on the 17th.
July 17: Leave London for Cork, Ireland We leave London (Flight FR901 depart at 6:20am and arrive in Cork at 7:45am) via Ryan Air (www.ryanair.com). We get to Cork and try our best to stay awake. We find the bus that will take us to the Blarney Castle and hop on. Hopefully we can get some sleep there. We spend the day at the Blarney Castle kissing the Blarney Stone and looking around the city.
Blarney Castle: http://www.blarneycastle.ie
From their Web site, it says:
Directions from Cork Airport (www.londoneye.com).
From Airport follow signs for City Centre
From City Centre follow signs for Limerick (N20)
Travel for 7 km; exit left (signposted Blarney)
Arrive at Blarney
When we are done, we go to the train station and wait for the Eurail to Dublin.
We have 3 seats reserved on the Eurail from Cork at 20:30 (8:30pm) to Dublin arriving at 23:15 (11:15pm). From there somehow we will get to our hostel and go to bed!
We are staying at the Barnacles Temple Bar House hostel. We already have 3 bed reserved in a 6 bed room. Each bed is about 27.50 euro.
July 18: Dublin
We spend the day in Dublin (probably drinking beer at The Guinness Storehouse). http://www.guinness-storehouse.com/
To get to the Guinness Storehouse from our hostel, we take the 123 bus from Dame Street, which runs every 8-10 mins. It takes about 10 minutes to get to Market Street, where it is supposedly located.
We may take a boat tour: http://www.dublinseatours.ie/ as well.
After that, we bum around and look at all the cool things like Parliament, etc and do the night ghost walk (http://www.zozimus.com/tourinfo.htm) if we can. Then eventually we make out way to the airport and 'bum around.'
July 19: Dublin to Paris
We leave Dublin at 6:25am and arrive in Paris at 9am, pop some caffeine pills, and hit Paris - Eiffel Tower, Louvre, etc. We tour around and try like hell to stay awake. Then we stay at someone's house (Nicolas') that we find via www.couchsurfing.com. This is a great way to find free places to stay and meet new people!
July 20: Paris We continue to check out the town and hit the rest of the museums and other places that we feel like exploring. We go to bed early so we can make the early July 21st Eurail to Amsterdam.
----- Still working on the stuff below this line------
July 21: Leave Paris for Amsterdam
We go to Paris Nord and take an 9am train to Amsterdam. We stay here for the day and hang out in the Redlight District and go to some sex shows. We also go to the Anne Frank museum.
July 22: Geneva
We either arrive to to Switzerland. We will decide soon
After spending a day looking around one of these two places, we head out to Rome either late night or on the 23rd.
July 23: Rome We spend the day in Rome after a night's sleep or if we get there in the morning, then in the afternoon we hit town. Hopefully we can get into the Vatican at this point. We need to find a place to stay. July 24: Rome
We spend the day in Rome and then depart Venice via train.
We either arrive to Venice in the morning or late the 24th. Either way, we try to sleep on the train and then spend the day out and about in Venice on the water, and seeing cool stuff. July 26: Venice We spend the day in Prague after arriving in the morning or late the previous night.
July 27: Prague We spend the day in Berlin after arriving in the morning or late the previous night.
July 28: Berlin We spend the day in Warsaw after arriving in the morning or late the previous night. We go to the concentration camp.
July 29: Warsaw We do this and that.
July 30: Riga We do this and that.
July 31: Riga We get to Riga probably by train from Warsaw and spend the first day with my dad going to Vec Riga and Lido and looking around town. August 1: Riga We go to Jurmala and see my dad's house and spend the day there.
August 2: Leave Riga for London at 4:30pm We spend the morning at Lido or some place and then head to the airport.
August 3: Leave London for Minnesota We are easy-going and stay at the London hotel and then head back home!
Ok, I organized all of the things we are doing. We can definitely cut back on things. I will have to discuss with you guys about flight plans. I would like to book SOME flights in advance. At least the one from London to Cork. Also, it would be cool to take a Panorama tour of London. That way we will cover ALL the attractions in a matter of 2 hours and can pick some to go inside -- most are not all that exciting to see the inside of.
Your trip is action-packed. I've been to most of the cities that you've mentioned and would stay longer in Paris and Rome if you get a chance. I would also recommend you keep a journal with notes about where you've been because it'll all just jumbled together after you come back. You also planned on going to the Vatican, but beware of the long lines (see if you can get tickets ahead of time) and remember to wear something to cover your shoulders and knees. Most of the churches in Europe seem to have that dress code. I also wasn't allowed in with a backpack because of security precautions so might want to be light on your feet if you can. Just some friendly advice. Good luck on your trip. Cheers!
