day one- wisconsin to springfield, Il
We set off at five in the morning on june 23rd. We made our first stop in Springfield, IL. We saw all of the Abraham Lincoln related sites. The very new Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum was phenomenal! The entire museum is wheel chair accessible, the first of it's kind. There is a neat replica of Lincoln's boyhood home. There is also a "White House" you can explore. You c an take pictures with wax figures like the entire Lincoln family, a childhood Abe, john wilkes booth and more. There is Union theater where they show a 17 minute layered projection show that has several suprises along the way. It is called Linoln's eyes. It is very cool. There is aamazing treasures gallery which has artifacts from Lincoln's life. The other theater has the show Ghosts of the library. It is so amazing! It is extremely high tech. The presidential library is worth a look as well. The Lincoln tomb was very neat. It wasn't a long tour but very informative. You get to be right up close to Abe, his wife and his children's graves. The only house he ever owned is in Springfield. Tours are led by park rangers. It is situated in a two block cobblestone area that is reminiscent of the 1800's. Also, throughout the town there is 36 statues depicting Lincoln's life. They are very cool but a little hard to find. We ate at the Coxy Dog Drive Inn. The food there was good but it was very greasy. but then, that's what drive inn's food is . The staff there are very friendly and they sell alot of Route 66 memorbilia. Then we retired to our hotel and swam.
