We had a pretty long day today but it was totally worth it, obviously, because now we're in Munich and only hours away from the first keg tap of Oktoberfest! We boarded our flight in Calgary last night around 11pm and our flight arrived an hour early in Munich, about 4pm local time. Our flight was OK but we were seated in front of the exit row so our seats didn't recline so I cramped up a bit and didn't get much sleep. Good thing I had Ocean's 13 to entertain me. We also had a lot of snack food with us but not nearly enough water it turns out.
Once we arrived in Munich, we went to the train ticket counter and asked where the heck we were going. The lady was very helpful and got us to the closest subway station, which is only a few blocks from our very nice hotel. The train from our hotel to the Oktoberfest fairgrounds is only about 15 or 20 minutes so that is sweet.
Once we were checked in and ditched the big packs, we were pretty hungry so we went across the street and ordered the prettiest pizza ever. Don't worry I got a picture so I can prove it. Teri-Lynn's pepperoni half smelled like a slaughter house though, so she picked off the pepperoni and ate it Ally-style. From there we headed downtown to do a little exploring in the Marienplatz. We walked around and checked out the old churches and Teri-Lynn experienced her first H&M. The pedestrian malls are super fun. At one point we spotted a lion statue and I asked T-L to hop on its back so I could take a picture and of course she obliged since she is fun like that. Right after I took her photo and was putting away my camera, a group of obnoxious drunk Americans walked by and one of them jumped right on that lion while Teri-Lynn was still on it. I was laughing so hard I didn't think to take another photo as the drunk dude hooted and hollered behind her, riding the lion like a bucking bronco. I finally recovered and ran over to help her get away from drunky. We started talking to them and that's how we found out they were Americans. The girls with them then tried to get us to go have beers with them all but we quickly ditched
them by walking into a nearby Starbucks so I could get my jet-lag-killing tea.
Of course we spotted a Häagen-Dazs as we were walking along and loaded up. As soon as we left the store, we spotted a gelato shop. So that's where I'm going for lunch tomorrow. Nothing else much exciting happened and after a couple of hours we came back to the hotel to rest up for our big day tomorrow.
