Took a Mothers Day jaunt to Stillwater. We came in on the main highway going thru historic downtown and strolled through town with the top down on the Sebring, just to get the layout. It was pretty basic, most everything is on that strip, so we parked at the far end, just past where all the traffic ends but still free parking and close enough to walk. Unfortunately, Dad had taken the camera with him to "fishing openers" so I don't have any pix of this trip. (gotta have more pictures of fish don'tcha know...)
My oldest son collects coins, so we visited a bunch of antique shops. I stopped at the winery, (there was only one that was open) and did a wine tasting. They had some really good wines from Minnesota. We walked up to the end where the caves were, but we didn't tour the caves this time. I will put it on the schedule for next time we go because it looks like a really cool thing to do.
By lunch time I was tired of puching the double stroller and wanted to sit down, so we went to the little ice cream & burger place on the corner. It is one that was not found by Yahoo's search. I don't remember the name of it, and my searches have proven useless so far, but the restaurant it great! They have awesome burgers, and don't get the fries, the homemade chips are to die for! I had the tuna melt and it was huge. They serve old fashioned malts and shakes with the extra still in the blender to share, or just keep it for yourself if you aren't worried about the calories.
After lunch, we went back to the car to see what else we could find, and just up the road there was a great park for the kids with a huge playground, and a beautiful view. Too bad I didn't have my camera. We didn't get to do everything we wanted to do, there just wasn't enough time, but since it is so close to home (about 25 mins) we will just have some stuff to do next time.
Overall, I'd give the day an 8.5, pretty good for a day trip!
