Myrtle Beach, Sun, and ... Wind?

So windy today and so darn cold! 40 degrees!! After scortching hot days in the 70s and 80s, today was a really bad disappointment. Forget the beach, so we left 2 hours later than scheduled. The trip down there was only a two hour drive and it was actually pretty nice. We knew we wouldn't be able to hit the beach this day so we decided to hit up the Aquarium first.

MILITARY-FRIENDLY!

To our surprise, because we're a military family, our price rate went from $60 down to a mere $16 for the ENTIRE family!! WOW! Talk about supporting your troops! THANK YOU to the Myrtle Beach Aquarium Center! Nice place, but real short. Not worth $60 if you ask me, so glad we got that discount!

STARTING LINE EAT-UP!

For lunch we stopped at the NASCAR Cafe where racing fans and car fans alike enjoy the laid-back atmostphere.  My sons were seriously enjoying the area and the wait time was not bad at all. It was so windy, the Speedway was closed at the time, but we still were able get our own bit of racing done inside at the arcade.

Once settled in out Hotel at the Mariott on 21st Avenue, we headed to Broadway at the Beach for another round of entertainment starting with the popular MagiQuest!

ImageIf you're anything like my family, we're MMORPG fanatics. We play computer games like World of Warcraft, Dark Age of Camelot, Evequest, and awaiting the highly anticipated Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning  so, if you are familiar with those games, then MagiQuest is right up your alley. It's a LIVE computerized RPG system where you get to create your own wand and choose your own character name. Then your wand is put into  a computer system and you are given quests to complete.Image

As you complete these quests, you gain XP or experience points which are then tallied into your own personal wand and can be traded outside the game arena for toys or prizes of various sorts. Now mind you, you will not be able to complete all the quests, but save your wand for your next visit and all your XP is still in the computer and will continue from where you left off.

GREAT edutainment for critical thinking, patience, teamwork, and problem solving skills.

The line was VERY long, about a 50min wait, but a very fun family-oriented event.

Later that night we slipped into our room with the sounds of Fireworks and a baseball celebration right next door! It was very fun!

Hi everyone.
If any one is interested ,we have a brand new town house in the community of (The Glens in International Club). It's huge. Around 1800 sq feet. And It cost less than a hotel room . You have a kitchen ,so you don't have to spend all that money eating out. It's about 3 miles driving to surf side beach. And about 5 miles to Myrtle beach. Please check it out by googling: SOUTHERN COAT VACATIONS and then look for my property THE GLENS INTERNATIONAL CLUB . There you can find pictures and prices.Although the pictures and discription doesn't do justice!

My best friend's family and I are planning a trip to Mrytle Beach in October 07. I am trying to find a decent place to stay without dirty carpets and smelling like mold..yuckie. We started out wanting to go to PCB,FL but NO way to many people that I work with have gone and been very disappointed. I have never visited Mrytle Beach and I think it would be a nice change even if only for a weekend 5-8 October-07
I will check out your townhouse this evening since I have to go to work now..
Any suggestions for 4 adults and 1 three old to stay would be greatly appreciate! Thanks..

Depending on when you decide to attend, the major on-the-beach hotels and inns will be booked if not scheduled in advance, so I would highly recommend reservaions well in advance. However, please do not overlook the south end of the beach, even if it is a little drive from Broadway or all the other attractions because you can get good rates for hotels right on the beach since the location isn't as "popular" because of the short drive, you can still get a GREAT view and some peace and quiet. If you don't need immedate beach access, I would truely recommend the Sheraton Broadway Plantation that we purchased noted in the journal. There is every possible amenity and it's right there next to all the attractions and just a short drive from the beach. Be sure to tell them you heard of them from me! =) ENJOY your vacation and send me a link when you get your trip planner updated afterwards!

Can anyone tell me the best place to stay on Myrtle Beach that is close to most activity and on the beach. We stayed in Virginia Beach around 21st Ave. and it was right in the middle of activity and on the beach (Capes Resort)Would like something that compares.
