My daughter and I are planning a trip to Edinburgh in July 2010, I want to do all the tours, see the castles, the highlands. Is it best to book the tours in advance or when I get there? Are there tours to see the highlands? Is it best to rent a car?
Any visit to Scotland is not complete without visiting Glasgow, for the atmosphere and Edinburgh for the scenery/Castle.If you dont have time to fit in a few days in the Higlands for amazing views and Castles and such the The Isle of Arran is ideal, you get there via Ferry from Ardrossan which leaves from Ardrossan a 35 minute train ride from Glasgow.Arran is amazing it is know as Scotland in minature,it has all you need to see in a relativley small area,Castles ,mountains, whisky distillery, beaches, wildlife and has some of the best scenery around,I highly recommend doing this if you are pushed for time, but be warned you wont want to leave !
My wife and I are planning a trip to scotland but don't really know where to go or what to do. We know we want to explore the country, castles, and the cities but we don't know the best way to go about it. any suggestions!
Michelle, I have been several times in Glasgow - and as in every city there is sooo much to see. Glasgow is awsome I love it :-). But with the hop on and hop off bus you can see already a lot. It's good to take this one!
to gramabetty, We think it will be difficult if you are on a tour. Some of the pedest. streets are cobblestone and a distant to walk from a parking area. If you are driving with someone, again some of the castles are a distant to walk from a parking spot but you may be able to get closer then a bus. A wheelchair might be better and faster.
Michelle, We took the hop on, hop off bus and we saw pretty much of what we wanted to see. We zipped through one museum and other then that we got out looked around and back on the buss. We saw enough for us. After awhile all big cities are the same, we rather spend time exploring the countryside. hope this helps
Hi, I'm planning a trip to Scotland for fall of 2008 and I wanted to ask if you thought 1 day would be sufficient for Glasgow? I'm trying to figure out if I can cut Glasgow to 1 day to free up another day for the countryside.
Thanks
Michelle
