We had a wonderful time on our trip to OKC.
Relaxing and enjoyable. We where not rushed and the timing of places was perfect as we didn't get into any real troublesome traffic or anything. There was a big basketball campionship going on so that probably reduced the touristy numbers a bit. It felt like a mid-week during the day without any traffic or much people. We felt that the locals had all gone on vacation. But their spring break was two weeks later so that couldn't be it. We really enjoyed the wonderfully friendly staff at the KOA campgrounds. We choose it because it was out away from the city and yet still within a reasonable distance to drive into town for visiting the sights. Great place to stay if you are into cabins or RVing it.
Turner Falls was nice, we just love going during off season. Daughter was a little bummed she didn't get to swim during our trip, it was still a bit nippy. Got some really great family and personnal shots while at Turner Falls.
The Memorial was very nicely done. We had a great reflective time. It really makes you grateful for what God has put in your life. And we got a glimps of the human spirit to survive and overcome. The reflection pool was absolutly beautiful and the area is peaceful and has a very reverent and prayerful feel. We wanted to go back when it got darker to see the area at dusk with the lights under the etched benches that represent those that where lost, but we didn't get a chance.
We visited the Art Museum next. It was a bit high priced for us, but was worth it. Hubby thoroughly enjoyed the Napolian Exhibit they had there at that time. DD and I loved the Chihuly exhibit of glass artwork. We even saw a great reactions and conduction video in the 3rd floor lobby. This will be a repeat if we are ever in OKC again.
We had a great lunch at CRABTOWN. We where not in the mood for the crab or the boil they bring out to your table it was only 4pm. So we opted for chicken salads and salmon instead. A bit pricy for our usually fair, but heck, we're on vacation gotta splerge some. The food was very good and the service wasn't bad either. There was no crouds and no line to get in so we caught it at the best time of the day. And it was on a Saturday.
Once back at the cabin we played cards and watched some old movies with our daughter's portable player. We got an early to bed nights through out our trip so our mornings ran very smoothly and we where very well rested.
We woke to thunder and hard rain in the middle of the night early sunday and it continued to rain until monday morning. Good thing our plans for sunday included indoor activities. We visited the Science Museum (which our local science museum membership got us in for free). Had a blast just playing and checking out all the exhibits. The hands on stuff kept us busy and entertained for hours. We enjoyed a snack of ice cream (something about cool wet weather just makes us crave ice cream). Then we checked out their photography exhibit and the Red Earth exhibits upstairs. DD got a little bored and that's when we realized it was closing time and we still hadn't eaten lunch. So we headed to Increadiable Pizza Co. for dinner and games.
We love the Pizza Co we had in Amarillo, so we where so excited to find one in OKC. True to the chain, we had too many choices of pizza, pasta, potato bar, and salad. Not to mention the cookie pizzas. After enjoying a not too much of the dinner choices we headed for the game room. Got our game credit cards and divided and conquered. Since there was only one exit out of the area, we allowed our dd to investigate with a little freedom from the old foggies. So DH and I took advantage of this time to play a game of race car together. This was always our favorite activity in Amarillo IPC so we found a similar one there in OKC. Hubby got 2nd place the first three times we played and I got 1st place the last time we played. (all other times I was around 7th).
On Monday we got up early and headed back home. Stopping at the IHOP in Norman for breakfast. We like IHOP because you can have breakfast anytime of the day. Even when we are getting a late start.
Then headed to Arbuckle to enjoy the animals. Since Hubby and I got passes last jan. we got one for our dd this trip. Not too bad just an additional cost of $3 to the admission for that trip. So we all three got in for the price of one pass this trip, next trip will be free, except we'll need to buy somemore of the feed for the animals. We had a blast and even got our window washed on one side. We had a camel baracade at one of the cattle guards, a donkey tried to open one of our doors, a zebra wanted to climb into our car on the driver's side (I told him not to have the window down to far), and got lots of great pictures of all the animals, even the turtles.
Overall we had a great time!!
