Dig Restaurant, Delray Beach

DIG is new, different, quite tasty, and healthy. The only thing odd about this place is the location … Delray. More typical would have been Boca Raton where healthy eating is way more common. However DIG is the kind of place that is worth the trip to Delray! DIG which means “Doing It Green” features a menu that defines originality. We only experienced two of their signature dinner dishes … “Organic Vegetable Lasagna” at $14; and “Murray’s All Natural Turkey Meatloaf” at $16. Cheese is an option for the Lasagna, but it is naturally served gluten free and vegan. Lasagna DIG-style is layers of organic locally grown vegetables including roasted eggplant, zucchini, yellow squash, red peppers, mushrooms and sweet potato in a somewhat more traditional however very tasty tomato sauce. Truly different and worth the experience. Next up is the meatloaf. Traditionally meatloaf is a mixture of foods we don’t want to know about. At DIG, the meatloaf starts with an all natural turkey, combined with eggs and other spices to form more of a turkey souffle. This delicacy is then served with mashed sweet potatos and a sun-dried cranberry and pomegranate sauce. For an additional $7 (after 6pm) you get a Salad Bar that’s beyond words. I’ve never seen such an array of great quality healthy and tasty salad items on a salad bar anywhere else in the galaxy. And if that’s not enough, the Salad Bar includes a choice of two of the best tasting Organic soups you’ll ever experience. On my next visit, the Soup & Salad Bar as an entree for $13 would be a great dinner. Although there are quite a few other temptations to pick from including: Grass-fed Beef Fillet Mignon, Center-cut Pot Roast, Chopped Yellow Fin Tuna Steak, Florida Wagyu Beef Skirt Steak, Lump Crab Cakes, Pan Seared Scallops, Irish Organic Sea Trout, and Spaghetti and Chicken Meatballs. Additionally, they have burgers … garden, buffalo, turkey, tuna and portabella. And not only are the portions quite good, the service is excellent. I think their only remaining challenge is creating sugar free culinary desserts. In the meantime, the desserts are quite good, but quite sweet. Who knows, DIG may make Delray a city known for healthy eats. And the good news, Delray is just a few minutes North of Boca and worth the ride for healthy great tasting food!
