I'm not from this area nor am I a person that critiques restaurants online, but I know good food from bad and the Local Eatery and Pub has good food. We have been in Indianapolis for about two weeks and have eaten in many of the area's restaurants. I was beginning to think that all restaurant food around here was right off the food supplier's truck ... but to my surprise, this place has good food. There were three of us and we started with a shared appetizer of Baked Goat Cheese ... not the usual preparation for a commonly made app ... nothing extraordinary, but very good. We each ordered different main entree. My wife ordered the Bleu on Blue salad which she raved about. She usually rants rather than raves. Sorry dear! She really enjoyed the nuts, and berries mixed with the blue cheese. I had the Smoked Duck ... very good. I expected a dry breast, but it was surprisingly moist and very flavorful. Jerry got the Grilled Pork Tenderloin that he enjoyed very much ... not dried out. It had a dripping of sauce on it that he wanted more of ... and he loved the garlic mashed. Our coup-de-grace dessert was something called a Truffle Trio, and as implied in the name, there was one for each of us. Nice.
It may have been a fluke happening ... but I don't think that it was. My experience at the Local has helped to restore my hopes in the culinary skills of this area. I highly recommend this place and the next time we visit here again, I'll be back, for sure.
This is an excellent new restaurant that serves fresh local produce, meat and beer. A nice change of pace for a new restaurant. The servers are friendly, efficient and informative about the menu and beverage choices and the food is a welcome change from the chain restaurants. Try it!
