Had the lamb platter, awesome. Wife had the chicken shawerma plate and loved it. Food was waayyyy better than Daphne's was over near Pete's. Would eat there again. My only issue I had was with the decor. When you walk in, its not Mediterranean scenes that you see, but Islamic holy sites. Although not Jewish, I am not sure if I would eat there, starring at a picture of an Islamic Mosque that is built atop a site I feel is the Holiest in the world. So the feel was more of an Islamic restaurant that serves great Mediterranean food. I will go back and eat there again, and I would recommend the place to all my friends. The staff was very nice to us (we had 4 kids). The place seemed packed and we were gonna order it to go but they went off and came back with tables and chairs for us. If you havent gone there, then go, and you wont be disappointed.
I have been watching the coming soon sign for months now excited that a new eating establishment was coming to my neighborhood. Gyro House Mediterranean Grill opened afew weeks ago and a friend and I finally went in this evening . It is not a fancy restaraunt, half-a- dozen tables and to go counter. The menu seems to hit all the eastern Mediterranean cuisines. I chose to start with basic fare and come back another time if it was good. I ordered lamb gyro and my friend ordered grape leaves, cheese pie, and humus plate. The staff was warm, friendly, very helpfull, and the order arrived promptly. The food was EXCEPTIONAL!!! Large portions, Large flavor, Large on love...yes love. You can taste the love put into the food they create. My friend was kind enough to let me sample his meal. The hummus was the creamiest, most flavorful I have ever had the joy of eating. The lamb was plentiful and perfectly seasoned and I recommend the spicy garlic tahini. We could not leave without trying the baklava and again were impressed! Delicate, multi-layered flavors of sweet, nutty goodness. Don't forget Turkish coffee to complete the meal. My experience was better than most upscale restaraunts in the Portland metro area minus the upscale atmosphere. Oh, and by the way, not the upscale price. Dinner for two under $30.00. What a gem! A meal to drive across the city for!
I NEVER write reviews for restaurants, but this place is AWESOME. The food is delectable, the service is prompt and quite friendly and the prices are very affordable. I enjoy Greek and Lebanese food very much, though I don't claim to be an expert. This place is among the very best I have tried and I will be going back often.
Thanks Gyro House!!
I love gyros and this place is probably the best gyros I've ever had. We've eaten there 3 times in the last 2 weeks! The hummus is perfect served with warm soft fresh pita and a couple of excellent olives! I'm amazed at how much lamb they put on the gyros and the price is right too. Our family of 4 had 4 gyros and 2 orders of hummus and the total was $32 + tip. I have yet to venture to try something else yet, but everything on the menu sounds appealing!
Excellent food and very friendly service. Hubby and I been there twice since they opened and will continue going. Am bringing a friend there next month for our lunch do. I always get the Chicken Shish Kebab combo, Hubby likes the beef kebab with extra skewer of Lulu kebab.
Baklava is very good and so is the square cakes that are made of farina and coconut topped with nuts.
Decor does not bother me. Hubby likes it especially the picture of Petra 'coz he spent 3 months there on archaological excavation.
A must-try restaurant.
You will not find a better Gyro ANYWHERE! They are stuffed. My husband went to another restaurant by his work and said it was horrible, hardly any meat and really thinly sliced. The owner and employees are friendly. We love it here and have recommended it to friends and family who agree! Thanks for not skimping! 10 stars!
I had an absolutely fantastic dining experience at the Gyro House today. The service was nothing short of excellent, the food was simply unbelievable, and this restaurant will be one that I frequent often. I rarely write reviews about dining establishments, but I feel that I would be doing everyone a disservice if I didn’t in this case. Do yourself the favor of visiting the Gyro House. You will be very happy that you did.
Thanks again guys! You are truly first-class! And I’ll see you again soon.
