So it was Sunday; driving around Strongsville after a visit at the mall with the wife. She was pushing for some healthy sushi and decided the Sakura Sushi was the spot been there a few times so familiar with their options. There were a tables so we waited for the waiter to come over as we sat in a booth. This older fella was wearing a hat along with sweat pants which was odd because the only time you should wear sweatpants to work is if are a school gym teacher or a porno guy whose ready for action. We just thought it was funny because his whole getup was just downright tacky; my wife asked him for recommendations which was a big mistake because the guy went into a gibberish rant about some rolls which I only understood about 1 in every 12 words that came of his mouth. Then my wife made a huge mistake by saying what so the guy came in closer to talk to us allowing us to get a whiff of his smelly breath; oh wow I was blown away. I didnt have it in me to leave but tried to have the meal over as quick as possible. We had the Pink Lady, Paradise and another roll all 3 were good unfortunately the guy kept on coming over asking how s everything?? is it good??? He was becoming a nuisance as he kept on just creeping around our table. If his boss was there I would ve said something but there was only him and sushi chef there that day. Overall, the sushi was above average. Recommendation to the place, if you are going to have 1 waiter for a place please allow him/her to speak some English and wear actual pants instead of what I wear during warm-ups for my flag football game.
I ate there for the first time today and it was very mediocre. I had shrimp terriaki and the shrimp was overcooked, tough and tasteless. The dish overall was bland. My date had the sushi which she said was OK but she wasn t blown away by any stretch of the imagination. Also the service was terrible. VERY slow. Maybe our waiter was having a bad day but he seemed pretty sullen and you can tell he really didn t want to be there. I sure won t be back.
I've been coming here a few times since becoming a resident of Strongsville. Really didnt want to post a negative comment about this place but the sushi chef fella pissed me off on few occasions so I hope someone brings it up to the management. Been there a few times for lunch each time we have to wait for the chef to come out sometimes he comes out of the bathroom he wears no glove to make the sushi I never seen him wear a hat or head gear for sanitation I am sure its health violation every place the chef has a hat on. On one occasion this guy angrily answered my simple question so I just made the order with the waiter who was busy with other customers. This chef usually makes the rolls real small maybe he doesnt like me for some reason. I really like the place and enjoy coming for their special pricing on regular rolls on Tuesdays and Happy Hour but I dont enjoy their sushi chef this guy looks like he's mad at the whole world; he shouldnt be in the front but in the back in the kitchen where the customers dont have to see that fat ugly face and big frumpy lips. Everytime I say goodbye to him trying to mend our relationship this guy gives me a glare or just ignores my gesture. Just hoping this guy at least puts on a hat for every's sake.
This is without a doubt THE best sushi restaurant in the area! We have eaten here many times and will continue to do so. There are no neon lights, disco balls or loud techno music... just awesome sushi and service in a truly zen-like setting. Try the Christmas roll or the Pink Lady (our favorites) There is nothing that is not awesome on their menu. The Salmon sushi is the best anywhere, fresh and flavorful. I give it two thumbs up only because I don't have three!!
I lived in the Strongsville area for a very longtime and did not know we have 3 Sushi houses in the same area. Shinto and Tomo are known habichi places but their sushi is no comparision to Sakura's. They specialize in sushi and make it very well. I tried their Sakura #1 roll and Spicy Killer roll both are fabulous. Its a small dining place but well maintained. Its a definite visit for sushi lovers.
