I just got back from my first trip with Alaska Premier Charters, Inc./ Wild Strawberry Lodge in Sitka, and it was AWESOME!! Over the course of a 4-day, 5-night stay with a friend, we consistently caught fish, ate like kings, and slept great. The lodge is comfortable and clean, and the staff were friendly and attentive from 4:30am in the morning to bedtime. Captain Ching made delicious sandwiches to order everyday while we were out on the water catching salmon, halibut, rockfish, etc., while the able deckhands consistently kept the hooks baited and the fish landing. The attention to detail by Theresa and the rest of the staff is incredible. I could instantly tell they were genuinely interested in making sure we had a great trip in Sitka, AK, along with the great fishing! The shuttle van driver was on time and waiting for us when we landed at the airport and ready to drive us on errands or to see a few of the great historic sites around town. Among other details, the lodge is located right by the marina for a short walk down to the boats, the breakfast and dinner were delicious everyday, 2 fast lodge computers w/ internet plus wireless, high quality fishing gear and boats and every size of clean rain gear and boots to wear fishing. I can't wait to go back!
The lodge is an older building on the boat harbor of Sitka. The rooms are no frill, but spotlessly clean. They each have a private bath. The atmoshphere is extremely friendly and accomodating. The food (3 meals a day) was very good with lots of variety. We met many guests who were here for multiple visits. One lady, 89 years young, had come to the lodge, annually, for fishing for many years.
The charter boats were new and well equiped with multiple radios and big screen, color, fish finders. The rods and reels were new and state of the art with depth meters. The captain and deck hand were helpful and knowledgeable. We caught our limit of King Salmon each day, as well as good numbers of Silver Salmon, Halibut and Rock fish. Caught a 167 pound halibut on his 3rd day of fishing. We brought home 200 pounds of fish filets and left some of the fish behind.
Ladies were welcome and made to feel comfortable, both at the lodge and on the fishing boats.
