Hel-Cat II, Groton

One of the crew memebers was very rude and obnoxious to the people. We were very surprised at the treatment.

1st & formost I Love this Boat / Ship Captain & Crew ! They Always Seem to Sail When Every Other Vessel has Cancelled. The Hel-Cat II is My Favorite Party Boat From Sheepshead to to Maine - even out to the 20 foot Salmon Charters off Oregon. I love this crew cause they "never let us down' Even in our last 1-2foot snow storm We Fished in the snow n ice & had a blast.. Only six fish that trip not a bucket O' Cod but they "WORK" to get you in there... The captain Put's in work. I can't say enough good things about the HCII " The Gusto of Groton " - hearty or keen enjoyment, as in eating or drinking, or in action or speech in general: to dance with gusto. I take my kids on the 9-3 trip a couple times a year. Mostly blues, but there's always a couple stripers being caught. Big shout out to the mates Keith and Matt, they do a great job controlling the chaos that is party boat fishing, and are always friendly. Stanley who sells tackle and food is a grump, but that's part of the atmosphere.

I take my kids on the 9-3 blues/bass trip a couple times a year. The mates are usually great, very helpful when my kids make a birds nest out of their reel. The boat could use a little sprucing up (my wife would not use the bathroom). I recommend it for a fun day of fishing.

My boyfriend and I went out yesterday on the 9-3 trip. It was an amazing time! Everyone was catching Bluefish left and right and were quickly filling up their bags. It took us a couple hours before we caught anything but once we did it was great! I myself caught a 16 pound Stripper that ended up winning the pool for that day. I was ecstatic and had an amazing time! I would absolutely recommend this to other people!

great trip well worth the $45. teh mates were very helpful and there was hardly any tangles. i went yesterday (sept 12) and we had a great expirience as we do every year. its definatley a great idea for a family trip.

Went out on a Saturday 9a-3p trip on the Hel-Cat 2 with my 2 boys (9 years Old). The crew was extremely helpful and the mates were as good as it gets. We fished the race and the Captain did a really good job of keeping us on the fish. A fish was hooked on every drift. My son caught a monster bluefish and talked about it for days. I would opt for a weekday trip if I had a choice because our Saturday trip was pretty packed. That said, the mates did a great job of keeping the tangles down to a minimum. Great value for the money. Boat is clean and tackle in decent condition. Food and beverages were very fairly priced. I can't say enough good things about the Hel-Cat and its crew. We will definately be back!

Took my girls out for the 1st time (13 & 15) and they had a great trip thanks to Chris the first mate. Chris was helpful in assisting my daughters in bringing up the blues and the bass that they were able to catch. I have been out many times before on this boat and always had a great day of fishing. Thank You!!!

Best Fishing Charter I've Been On ! Not too crowded, everyone on the boat caught fish. Price was great and most of all the crew were fantastic - they were so much fun it made the trip (not to mention the 11 fish we caught between the two of us).

Overall the Sunday morning trip on the Hel-Cat was a good experience. The two mates were very lively and attentative, although there were a handful of fish that never made it in the boat (not all ours) because the mates were tending to other people, but that is no fault of their own. They fish "The Race" between Block and Fischers island and if you get a very very quick moving tide on the day you are out there the fishing can be kind of tedious. The tide drifted our line away from the boat so quick on most drifts that you could unleash the whole spool and never feel the bottom, which means less chance of landing a fish and more chance of tangles... actually I'd say there was only 2 or 3 drifts where we actually knew we were on the bottom. However, in my party of 4 I caught one mid-sized blue (bigger than cocktail), one caught 5 blues some of pretty decent size, one had a 29" striper and a mid-sized blue, and one caught the pool fish, a 36" striper. So, trip produced some fish, 90% of which were caught before noon, but the drifts started getting way too short in the afternoon, and the tangles and frustrations started mounting. Give it a try and you probably won't be terribly dissappointed.
