Tree Tunnel Nightmare
By ,
I liked being able to park close to the train, what followed was a nightmare. We were under the impression a steam locomotive was to pull our train. It didn't. It wasn't even operational they stated later on, the ticket salesperson seemed huffy that we asked questions of them. The ride to Bartlett started nice but soon turned into a tree tunnel. Trees, trees and more trees. If I wanted to see green trees, I'd sit in the comfort of my own backyard. The windows could use cleaning and the restrooms had a odor of un-healthfulness. We tried sitting in the open air car for awhile but the exhaust fumes from the motor made me feel nauseated I would never recommend this ride to any of my friends.

Choose the right ride/destination
By ,
There are several different rides available. The least expensive ride (the Valley Train) travels from N.Conway to Conway and yes, isn't that scenic. You will pass close behind people's houses. To appreciate the ride you need to take the trip to Crawford Notch (the Notch Train). "THIS" is the scenic ride. So long as you know the difference you'll be fine. To all those above who were displeased, if you're in the area again take the ride north to Crawford Notch. You will NOT be disappointed.

never again
By ,
My family decided to go on the railroad expecting to see a nice scenic view of North Conway, but we got the opposite. The train lead us through a very strange passage, past a factory or two. There was really nothing scenic about the railroad. We will never again go on the Scenic railroad. ever.

It was pouring rain and so foggy we opted not to go 24 hours in advance, but still had to pay a cancellation fee. It took 3 months, & numeorus phone calls & letter to get them to rectify THEIR credit card error. BEWARE

Railway Dream
By ,
What a fantastic time we had. We did the Crawford Notch run which was chartered by a train club out of Maine. This was the last run to the notch for the year, so they made it extra special. First, they started with a steam engine which did some small runs, including unloading passengers at one point (if you wanted to) and doing a drive-by "photo-op". They then switched to steam engines for the ride to the notch and back. This is typically done after fall foliage, but the colors were prolonged this year and were present for the ride. Plus, it had rained the day before, so all the streams and waterfalls were running full. You stop at Cider Mill, where you can get cider, apple crisp, or cider donuts (get off amongst first if you can). There are other stops to stretch your legs. The total ride for this special run is about 8 hours. We rode in coach and it was plenty comfortable, with great folks around us enjoying the ride. Not sure if this is suitable for small children due to the length of the ride. But any adult who can relax with beautiful scenery and can spare a day, will love this.

Not Scenic at all
By ,
Was very excited for the ride but was very disapointed in the end. On the Sunday after Thanlksgiving we took the Holiday express. It was only some garland hung in the cars, and santa gave out some cookies. The Scenic ride was mostly backyards of houses and business. A few rivers and mostly trees. My ride on the LIRR is nicer. I do not reccomend spend your monoy on something else.

Beautiful and relaxing

I enjoyed the views, the escape from technology and the chance to be in the moment. This is a must-see if you are spending some time in the Conway area.

Refrain from the Train
By ,
My family and I were excited about going on the 55 minute train ride, but I don't recommend it. To say it was 'scenic' is a stretch--you pass people's backyards and the back of buildings most of the time. Also, you go half-way and then the train reverses and you back exactly the same way you left--so, you see exactly the same poor views. I really wanted to like the train ride, but I didn't. The train is old and beautiful, the conductors were all very nice, but the short tour is not worth taking.
