My friends and I had a spectacular time during a wine tour with Arcady Vineyard! In trying to arrange a surprise birthday party with a unique twist, I contacted Erika, who was very creative in tailoring a package to our needs. Erika lavished us with an extravagant, leisurely afternoon for which we all talked about for days thereafter. We all had so much fun I contacted Arcady Vineyard again to plan an anniversary gift for my husband who is also a beer lover. Surprisingly, Erika suggested that we include a new brewery in our route. I appreciate the attention to detail their flexability and can’t wait to share this experience with my husband!!!
We made a reservation received an email from the innkeeper that all was good and then the innkeeper changed her mind and decided she wasn't able to accommodate us. She misled us to believe everything was good with our reservation and then decided it wasn't going to work.
Arcady Vineyard B&B was the definintion of luxury and elegance. Starting with homemade cookies, fresh fruits, and a bottle of French sparkling wine waiting for us as we arrived. Once we settled in, Chris brought out locally made cheeses and wine for us to enjoy before Erika drove us to town. All the rooms were airy and very spacious, fresh flowers in each room, beautiful furniture, natural wood floors. Huge windows everywhere, bringing the wonderful views of nature indoors. Everything was high-tech and new (flat-screen TVs, fireplace, steam shower, jacuzzi...) The linens were incredibly luxurious. We still talk about how good the bath robes felt. Even the waste baskets were elegantly lined with parchment paper, not plastic garbage bags.
We had dinner in town and enjoyed our beer and wine without worring about driving. When Erika brought us back, there were two glasses of port and a couple of chocolates waiting for us. We savored these as we relaxed in the jacuzzi and benefited from the extra warmth provided by the fireplace.
And the three-course breakfast. Wow. We started with warm fresh muffins, then poached bananas, ending with scrambled eggs in puff pastry, bacon, potatoes, rustic toast, fresh fruit. One couldn't get a more delicious breakfast in any restaurant. We also appreciated Erika's use of local and organic ingredients.
We had a wonderful and relaxing time at Arcady B&B. We felt Chris and Erika could have charged us more because of all the extras they provided. They were so gracious and unintrusive. We are now looking at our calendar for a next special date to come back to Arcady.
My husband and I just celebrated our 10 year wedding anniversary at Arcady Vineyard Bed & Breakfast and wine tour. Chris and Erika far exceeded our expectations. It was the perfect combination of relaxation, adventure and pampering. The accomodations were gorgeous. Erika made incredible gourmet breakfasts each morning that were out of this world. I loved the personal touch Chris brought to the wine tour, he was very knowledgable and very accomodating! He even stopped the car so I could get really cool photos of the scenery. :-) They truly are walking in their gifting in life, hosting people at the B&B and touring people around excellent Virginia vineyards, it really felt like we were with family, but even better.
Thanks Chris & Erika for giving us the best anniversary weekend getaway we could ever ask for. We highly recommend these guys to anyone!!
I booked our tour based on the reviews at this site and am so glad I did! It was during a 5-day trip for our anniversary and the tour was a surprise for my husband who is a wine buff.
We had stopped at a few wineries in the days before our tour, so I was a bit worried that my husband would be upset at the money I spent for the tour ($270 - we got the full lunch and a cake). But as my husband said after the tour, it was money well spent.
Chris was our driver and tour guide. He was on time at our B&B (the wonderful Inn at Meander Plantation - also HIGHLY recommended - meander.net). He was friendly and very informative.
Our first stop was Keswick. Chris knew the staff member who did the pourings and we felt like VIPs. In fact, since our tour was on a Monday in December, we were the only ones in the tasting room! The wines were lovely and we bought a bottle and got to keep the glasses. Chris took everything for us and gave us a bottle of water. He said if we drank as much water as we did wine, we'd be fine for the afternoon. What was wonderful is that we did not have to worry about drinking/driving. We could truly enjoy the experience.
Next we had lunch. It was fantastic. I have to agree with another review - the turkey sandwhich was OUT OF THIS WORLD! My hubby had the roast beef which was also tasty.
Then we were off to Jefferson and Kluge. We so enjoyed our host Ed at Jefferson! While he took a bit of warming up, he is a real gem! We bought three bottles of wine at Jefferson plus some bottle-top candlelabras.
Lastly we toured Kluge. WOW, I can see where the money has been spent. Their front porch is so charming as is the little sitting area with cast-iron stove. It was too cold to stay outside, but they have tables under the trees where they serve food and I could see how we'd be making another trip back for that.
Kluge's Farm Store is wonderful - filled with gourmet sweets, cheeses and complete entrees. In addition to the two bottles of wine we purchased (their sparkling wine and their "port"), we also bought some cheeses - the kitchen was already closed so sadly we could not purchase any of their entrees.
The afternoon went by much too quickly. The sunny Virginia skies were the perfect complement for our winery afternoon and we both highly recommend booking an Arcady Wine Tour to experience Virginia's vino!
This B&B is excellent, thanks to the efforts of the host and hostess! While rather modest in appearance, the excellent food and services quickly make it one of the very top bed and breakfast values in not only Virginia, but in this region of the country as well.
The Wine Tasting Tour is a real bargain, and one of the best we've ever taken. The generosity of the host and hostess in providing each guest with the quality of services generally unknown in this country, but not uncommon in parts of Europe, do not go unnoticed.
Highly recommended for adults only.
My husband and I celebrated our 1 year anniversary on this wine tasting tour and it was the most worthwhile thing we did while we were back in Charlottesville. Erica and Chris are fantastic tourguides and people. They are knowledgeable and friendly. The wineries we went to were top-knotch. You could tell that the people at the tasting rooms respected the arcady team. We plan on doing the tour again with friends in the future. The lunch that was served was well worth the $20 extra. It was truly delicious and elegant. Best turkey sandwich I've ever had.
We booked a tour for our weekend getaway to Charlottesville and it was the highlight of our trip! Being in the VA wine business, I had high expectations of our tour and all were exceeded. Erika made the trip with her extensive knowledge of the area and the wineries. It is easy to find and hire a tour company for an outing like this, but the personal detail of Arcady makes all the difference! We look forward to our next visit!
I second all of the positive remarks from the previous review and would like to add that Erika's knowledge and personality added to the enjoyment of our tour as well! We visited 5 wineries, walked among the grapes, witnessed a bottling, and thoroughly enjoyed tasting each and every wine! Thanks Arcady for making our trip special.
We arranged for a private tour to celebrate our anniversary. We invited friends, the innkeepers of The Inn at Meander Plantation and the Mark Addy Inn, to join us.
The Goodells met us in the tour vans in Charlottesville. I don't think we rode in the same configuration twice. That was half the fun - getting to visit with everyone. We got right to it, piling in and heading for Veritas. They have one of the most beautiful tasting rooms I've ever seen. I mean, I think the drapes were about twenty feet long (not wide, long!) and I can't even remember how many big fat comfy leather sofas were in there, and the woodwork and the barrels set into the walls over the entrance and the gorgeous tasting counter and that fabulous view across the vineyards - wow! It was breathtaking. And wine after wine delicious. We chose a bottle, naturally, to take with us.
Chris promptly said, "I'll take that," and disappeared with our wine to the van, where a box materialized, with our names on it. Very nicely done.
Off to another winery! This time, Cardinal Point. Chris's statement, "Instead of putting their money into a lavish tasting room, they've put it into making good wine," turned out to be profoundly true. Now, typically, Larry and I have somewhat different taste in wine, and we buy the ones where our preferences overlap. This time, I found not one but FOUR wines that I thoroughly enjoyed. I handed the list to Larry, and he said, "That looks about right," and got all four. Now, here's where the spoiled rotten part comes in- up steps Chris and he whisks away our purchases. I didn't even have to carry my own packages!
Next, King/Michael Shaps wines. Folks, we were in for a TREAT. First of all, we wound through the Virginia countryside on a perfect summer afternoon taking in beautiful views, chatting and laughing with friends. From the parking lot, nothing special... until we rounded a corner and found ourselves on a covered patio with tables and views for miles across manicured pasture (a polo field!) and misty mountains in the distance. Chris chose a corner table while Erika escorted us into the tasting room. "Enjoy yourselves and take your time - lunch will be served when you're ready."
We then went on to taste some really wonderful wines. Truly. We decided on wines for lunch and walked out to see that Erika and Chris had set a beautiful table. We dug in as if famished.
Lunch: marvelous cheeses, fresh fruit, followed by sandwiches and chips, then a really *good* fruit tart. All accompanied by fine wine and camaraderie, in an exquisite setting.
Ok, time for more wine. We went to Kluge and I would love to tell you that I had wonderful wines and bought a case and had a great time. Pass.
From there, another winding country road or two and we were off to a private tasting at Blenheim. Larry was bowled over by the fabulous barn/winery/tasting room and was busy examining it in great detail. Brad McCarthy, our host, began explaining his wines and pouring glasses (no way you could call those 'tastes') and we all gathered at a long farm table and visited and laughed and drank wine as the sun got low over the vines in that glorious view out the wide expanse of windows. Delicious, well-crafted wines, and if you read a bit on the Blenheim website, you'll see that Brad has quite the winemaker's pedigree. He's earned himself a reputation and tons of experience and is a young fellow in his 30's.
A leisurely drive back to Charlottesville and fond farewells brought the tour to an end. We offer our thanks and a hearty BRAVO to the Goodells for a job well done and memories made.
It just doesn't get any better.
