Chiesa di Sant'Apollonia o di Mezzaratta
Description
The Chiesa della Mezzaratta stands halfway up the road that leads to the Colle dell'Osservanza. It was built and dedicated to Sant'Apollonia in the 12th Century. The cycles of frescoes originally painted in the church by Vitale da Bologna, Jacopo di Paolo, Simone de' Crocifissi, Jacopo Avanzi and Jacopo da Bologna form a superb synthesis of medieval Bolognese painting. They are now kept in a single room in the Pinacoteca Nazionale that was built to reproduce the architecture of the church.
