Gianni started the trend for Italian restaurants serving proper Italian "cuisine" as opposed to the usual spaggy bol and pizza places which preceded him, When competitors saw how popular he was it inspired them to open up a similar set-up. Customers did not leave Gianni's in favour of these newer places though, he still has a very loyal following and it's still difficult if not impossible to get a table without a reservation. On any given night you may see government ministers or members of the Thai Royal Family dining here. Take my advice and try his special menu recommendations.
