Church of Notre-Dame d'Auvers
Description
The eglise Notre-Dame d'Auvers had its beginnings as a humble chapel, built in local stone around the end of the 11th Century. The apse and belltower were added in 1170, and the church body was built between 1190 and 1220. These works echoed the style of the Cathedrale Notre-Dame de Paris . Van Gogh immortalized the church during the 19th Century, helping it to regain stability through this fame after a time of financial and spiritual challenges.
One of the many not to be missed churches in Bordeaux. Just off the Allees de Tourny and near the Opera House.
Pay attention to the detail of the place especially the giving of the chaplet above the door.
