Bike and Wine Tour with Lunch
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 9/17/07
The Bikes provided were in good condition although the tires were a little soft. The route was easy and the map was adequate.
We had great difficulty contacting the company to finalize the arrangements - we made numerous calls (more than 10) before finally received a response back. We even made 2 trips to their location at Niagara on the Lake but it was closed and they were still not answering their phones. Note: we also met several other frustrated potential customers.
When we finally arrived for our tour the tour guide was friendly and very cooperative.
Note: the specifics of the tour are very vague- what wines are included in the tastings? - what sort of lunch to expect? etc ????
- even some confusion as to which wineries were included.
The brochure indicates visits to 3 wineries however one of the tour maps provided indicated 4 while the other indicated 5. Only 2 wineries provided a sample of ice wine, Peller and REIF. Marynissen Winery only provided 2 wine samples more could be had at the regular cost though. The others provide 3 or 4 samples. The 5th winery, Inniskillin, was marked on the map however they did not participate as part of the package and charges were imposed for all the tastings. After looking at some of the winery sampling lists it appears that many of the wine samples we were provided would have been provided free to any walk-in cliental.
The lunch was a pre-made sandwich with a few vegies and some fruit and included a low cost drink such as bottled water. The sandwich platter was good but I was expecting a lot more on a $79 tour.
If have your own bike or rent one, you could have the same tour if not a better one for a fraction of the cost, likely about $30.
Glad we had a good day weather wise.
I would not recommend this tour to most people - but if you need a bike and lots of hand holding - well then maybe.
