Not to be missed—this beach is world famous for its fabulous sand and crystal waters and for the myriad upscale resorts that line it. It was a beach with no name until 1907 when it became the landing point for the Trans-Atlantic cable, which stretched from here to connect The Bahamas to mainland America at Jupiter, Florida. Today, it's the ultimate playground for fun in the sun. There are all the usual water sports and activities and plenty of space for sunbathing.
I thought the Maritimes with the Bay of Fundy was the ultimate, but clearly I hadn't experienced the incredible beauty of Cable Beach. It is so clean. Even the seaweed is minimal. The sand is a pleasure to walk on and the water is devine.
Stayed at the Nassau beach hotel right on Cable beach and while this was my first beach experince two years ago, what I have seen since has taught me that this was a great example of what an ocean beach should be.
The sand is a little more coarse than the pure powder on Paradise island but there are no rocks and no trash. If you are not staying at one of the hotels, don't worry, just pull up a chair and soak up the sun. (the No.10 bus will take you out of Nassau proper to cable beach)
In the water, the snorkling is amazing! This is especially true off the shore behind the Wynndam (spelling?) where the break wall, made of large boulders covered in coral, is home to some beautiful fish. Look for the elusive Squirrel fish. Really interesting. So much life so close to shore that you won't need to pay to be taken out snorkling by the Dive companies if you are on a budget.
Great atmosphere. There are very few people trying to sell stuff on the beach but I highly recommend getting a coconut from the guy that constantly says "buy a coconut" over and over. Really tasty and refreshing while on the beach.
